I've been putting more soup on the chunks than vice versa. Im afraid he wont eat if I dont soup it up. He was doing so good with the chunks for a couple days, then he doesn't want them anymore. I'm confused to by which direction to lead him to now but hes still a little over 2 lbs so I think I have to start forcing him to eat the chunks. I think the soup might be too high in protein and that's why he's overweight? along with being inactive (due to being overweight- a vicious cycle). I just got him a girlfriend, Jambi! Shes a year old and very active. I'm hoping that having a friend will help him loose some weight and not eat so much. I've noticed that just within the last 24 hours of having her that he isn't approaching the soup bowl as often as he usually does. Ive been dabbing some soup and fish oil on her nose to get her familiar with it and hopefully get her on raw fast. She's very small, the runt I think! Shes on a kibble diet right now, orijen, hoping the raw will add some meat to her bones! I'll post pics once she sits still enough It's all dooks and wardances with her!

Jambi is already on soup and small chicken chunks she’s helped herself to the bowl and only snacks on orijen one kibble at a time! Who would’ve thought she’d be so easy!

If you don't push him, then of course he won't eat it. Start by making the soup thinner and thinner, then by decreasing amount every second or third meal you make slight changes. That way he gets used to his meals changing, instead of imprinting on one texture. That is why it is SO important to push them.

He only licked the soup on it and held out until breakfast. :/ When I got Jambi, she was on Orijen kitten and cat kibble. She eats the soup on her own but doesn't know what to do with the chunks other than to leave them in random corners of the room! (I heard using a box as a meal den makes ferrets not want stash their meals in other parts of the room) I also noticed that they both hardly approach the soup lately. When Jambi was on kibble, I noticed she would be at her bowl more often than she is the soup bowl but would also eat a good amount of kibble. Is it because kibble metabolizes faster? Since Appa is doing so poorly on the transfer to solids, I'll start from the beginning again and go back to slivers of meat. That way Jambi can build her portions up.

Slivers sound like a plan for both. And this time, just keep pushing him.

Hey Sherry, Jambi is doing great with her slivers and taking to solids really fast! Appa on the other hand seems sick. I posted in the health section, if you can please take a look at that! I'm really worried about him. Since this morning, he's been un interested in eating and his poop is very loose and green. All seedy and one is jelly-like. I posted links to pictures on the thread in the link. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/24524/appas-poop-looks-ece

Just read. And yes, it sounds like a bacterial overload. Abx clears that up quickly Appa is such a little diva lol. Keep upping the size for the new one every other meal. I also want you to get some cornish hen if you can. It's time to start pushing some bone.

😂 haha I don’t think diva begins to cover it!! He’s finally starting to eat on his own again! And the poops are firm finally!! We sized up slivers and he’s eating them so we’ll continue to push forward! Is quail the same as Cornish hen? I tried getting Jambi to eat a quail leg but she didn’t know what to do with it yet so we’ve been playing tug o war with it instead! I think she likes it but hasn’t tried digging in yet! I’ll crush it up and also try giving her quail wing too if you suggest it!

Quail is a different protein and a good add to the menu You can always chop up well and mix with other meat to get them to accept it. With mine, I have two who I can just cut a quail in half and toss half to each. I have two others where I have to cut the quail up- legs, thighs, wings, etc

Haha how picky they get! You have 4?
Yay! I want to move jambi for a full raw diet, do you think I can do the frankenprey switch right now? Also, Appa is a big boy and didn't seem to loose the weight even though he was refusing to eat as well as having diarrhea. We started his medication to treat that tuesday night and he had firm (green) poops but today theyve been runny and still green. He's still getting his meds for the full 6 days but if it continues, what would you recommend?

Oh never mind about the poop for now.. I think... I forgot to give him his clavamox that night before with his other meds and I think that’s what upset his tummy! I missed it once and that made a huge difference. Now that it’s apart of the system again, his poops are firm and a normal brown now! yay

Go ahead and move Jambi to full frankenprey. It might even help move Appa along faster!

Hi Sherry! Jambi is doing great with her meals. Shes eating the complete quail legs and full inch cubes of meat along with liver and heart chunks! But it seems her progression didn't encourage Appa at all. In fact, he refuses the chunks entirely and leaves them for jambi. I tried using different bowls and still the same result. Now I'm wondering if I should continue making soup for appa or if there is another alternative for his diet. He's been on the soup since october of last year and every once in a while he gets a tummy ache and his poops arent solid, and during so he doesnt want to eat at all. I'm thinking its because hes not eating anything solid therefore it comes out the same sometimes... This week he's starting to show interest in my human food which he doesn't normally do. What do you suggest?
