1. Get digital postage or food scale.\ 2. Set to appropriate graduations (lb/kg) 3. Place clean empty ice cream bucket on scale 4. turn on and zero/tare scale 5. Add a few drops of ferret oil (salmon/ferretone) to a corner of the bucket away from the scale 6. Add ferret and read scale IMG_1394 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr IMG_1395 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

I love the ice cream bucket idea! I have been using a Tupperware container but it isn't quite the right size. Thanks for posting this!

This is SOOOO helpful! Getting them to stay on the scale is so difficult!

I love this idea! I'm still trying to teach my kit that salmon oil is yummy. He's not convinced, lol!

a treat would work, or a piece of their regular food.

An analog scale works the best. if you are watching when you put the ferret in you will not have to wait for those slow reacting digital scales. I can weigh all five of my ferrets faster than my other half can write it down. I lay them on their back in the bowl and it give plenty of time to get a non-bounce reading.
I use a large stainless steel bowl cause an Ice cream bucket will not hold a couple of my Fat ferrets.
