Hi everyone - Baxter and Bailey are doing great. They are not biting as much and their little personalities are starting to shine. I have had their distemper and rabies shots but now after stressing during the rabies shot the vet tells me I hv to bring them back for a booster shot. Is that normal? Things are going so great, do I have to really take them for a booster shot. Oh I live in South Africa the vets are good but different advice. Thanks

Hey Hydie! Personally, I only get my ferrets vaccinated once each for Rabies and Distemper after 6 months of age and that's it. I know others may wish to run a titer test to see if it is needed, and some will take the risk to vaccinate again (but the more times vaccinated, the higher the risk usually is of an adverse reaction occurring), and some refuse to vaccinate at all because of the inherent risks of vaccines.

I feel that because they don't go out being exposed to their factors then rather just leave it as being done. The boys are 1 year now and all what I think needs to be done is done. Neuter check, distemper check, nails clumped checked, rabies check is there anything I may if left out?

Personally I also only vaccinate once for each. If you want to run titers do so. I don't simply because of the cost here ($300+)
