Hello there. I have 2 furballs. My year old male is driving me nuts. Anytime he is in his cage awake, he's scratching at the floor. Is there something I can get him that's safe for the cage that would help with that habit? Or some really excited in cage toys/activities that would entertain him?

You could try a small dig box, if there's enough space? I use rice, and hide toys in there to dig up and find (don't use instant rice, it could swell up in their bellies. Regular rice won't). But it probably won't be enough. Digging is classic ferret behavior, it's pretty hard to stop.

I can't just let him out when he does that. We are still working on a ferret safe play area as every stinking thing we come up with, they figure out how to escape. I can't tell you how much time and money we have spent trying to create a safe area for them. Something works for a few days to a couple weeks and then bam...doesn't work anymore. We just built them a huge tunnel and box play area and on the 3rd day, they chewed a hole in the tunnel and now that's all they go for...back to the drawing board.
Anyway, if I had a house that had rooms that could be blocked off, he would be out whenever he wanted, but that's not the reality.
The dig box works for a little while, but then they start pooping in there.

He is bored and acting out. If he can't come out all you can do is ignore. For the tube, why not go with black perforated drainage tubing? Those are impossible to chew through.
