I have a double Ferret Nation cage and am thinking of adding on another double and eventually 2 more double after that.
I have this idea about in the beginning setting up the bottom of one of the doubles as a den in complete darkness, thay way they can just go in and out and get the proper lighting that they know they need.
If I do that, does that mean I could then leave them uncovered or would they get off their natural lighting schedule if they knew I was nearby and come out of their den?
Thanks,

I leave my Ferret Nation cage completely covered at all times. I figure the less light, the better, especially since I know my ferret's getting some extra light in the evenings when I'm home. She's free roam during the day, but she always sleeps in dark places (under covers or in a drawer or a box).
Ferrets generally prefer the dark, and can see well under those conditions, so I'm pretty sure they don't mind a permanently covered cage.
