Okay! Lol. Mice first. My males can eat 1 to 3 large mice in one meal. My only girl a single medium sized mouse or part of a large. Other whole prey items. Rabbit, quail, pigeon, squirrel, Guinea pig, ASF's (rats but look different enough), small fresh water fish, any small rodent. Can't recall others atm. Amounts will depend on the ferrets.

I live in Canada so the only two I can think of for you is rodent pro and big cheese. If you feed more than one or two whole prey meals a week then yes, you have to balance out the rest. I'll fund you the link in a bit.

Sounds good. I was hoping to just do one or two meals a week so they're getting different proteins versus what I can buy at the store.

Wow, that chart helps a ton! Thanks Sherry!
I'm still looking for a good place to buy more whole prey from. But they're really enjoying their mice for now!
I've found a place called Perfect prey, but they only sell mice, rats and chicks.
And a place called Layne Labs which has a lot of prey, but I want to get more information on them before I place an order. They have rabbits (which are a big NO, I'm highly allergic, hives and everything), quail, chicks, and guinea pigs, along with their mice and rats.

Depending, the second one sounds really good. Out of curiosity- if you could get rabbit without the fur/head would you have the same reaction? Either/or rabbit isn't essential to their diet Also keep in mind, although they will LOVE day old chicks, keep them to no more than one meal a week max They are the cotton candy of the carnivore world

It's the dander I'm allergic too. Which, as a fiber artist, rots. No angora for me! I'm pretty sure a beheaded, skinned rabbit would be ok.
What size guinea pig/mice/chicks/rabbit should I be ordering? Some of the places I've looked have different sizes of prey.

It depends on the number fed, and how much they eat. Obviously adult. With guinea pigs stay with the short hair unless you want to skin them. Jason has a great video of butchering them. Mice my males would eat 2 average adults or one extra large one adult rat would do a couple of ferrets etc. I would also get DO chicks to give as a meal once every couple of weeks as a treat. They adore those lol

The boys are still black holes, and I'm still finding the happy medium on how much to feed whole prey. Four medium mice aren't enough, so I'll either have to go larger, or give more.
Between them and my collie puppy, I'm surprised I'm not broke, they're all black holes, and IDK where they put it all!
EDIT: Placing an order for some whole prey. Kind of choking on the price tag a little, but it's in bulk, so..... Not sure when it will come in with the holidays and all.

OMG puppies are indeed black holes lol. And yeah- whole prey is not cheap! Which is why when ordering from places like rodent pro stock up as shipping costs the same for a full box or half full one.

Yeah, he's 11 months old, and his breeder told me to expect a massive growth spurt in the next six months.....He's certainly gearing up for it.
I ordered from rodent pro, I was wondering if they were good.
My area has people stealing packages off porches, I'm done with all my shopping except for the whole prey and a shipment of organs. It amuses me to no end to imagine someone stealing those packages and opening them hoping for expensive electronics.

Same. The package is due to show up tonight. Tonight is heart night, but I might forgo it today in favor of giving them some quail or something.
EDIT: It arrived! I never thought I would be excited about a box of dead animals on my porch. Now hubby and I have to have a chat about buying the ferrets their own freezer....
EDIT: Well the ferrets now have their own freezer. Dead things were creeping hubby out a little. But I'm also a proud ferret mama this morning. I gave them a whole two week old quail for dinner, I didn't cut it open or anything. The only thing left this morning is a few feathers. :3

Sounds like a plan! I will be out of town and away from my computer from the 24th to the 26th. I had to promise the pet sitter I wouldn't make her feed them any whole prey, so I'll try and see about giving them the other two proteins (guinea pig, and rabbit) before I leave.
I know I need to gut the intestines from the guinea pigs, and the rabbits. The guinea pigs are small enough that one is a meal. But how do I feed the rabbit? Do I just chop it up into pieces that may or may not have organs in them or what? They're big rabbits.
