Hey If you read my last post you’d know I was thinking of doing partial raw meat. i would do full but I don’t have enough freezer space for it, and would have to buy fresh each and everyday. so someone made a really helpful comment on FDR (Freeze-Dried Raw) now sadly being in the UK I don’t have much local or online access to FDR products unless it’s berries and all the danger foods for ferrets. Till i I remembered that dogs and cats can both be fed a raw meat diet too, which led me to finding this: www.naturalinstinct.comthere is a pure meat section which is nothing but meat and bone and only Very little fibre, the sodium is basically non exsistant. www.naturalinstinct.com/pure-duck Thats one one of the options, if you’re interested. The reason i ask is ive read they cannot have dog or cat food, wet or dry, also some of the ingredients is tripe mainly in the beef ones, is tripe ok for them?

Just checked the natural instinct one. The "pure cat" for some reason has zero heart in it, which for cats and ferrets is essential for the taurine. The "natural cat food" seems to be the better one. However it has no liver/organ which are essential. The "cat country banquet" appears to be the better of the lot, but you will still have to increase the amount of heart as it is too low. I wouldn't do the dog one. And ferrets, cats, and dogs all eat very similar diets when on raw. The main difference is cats and ferrets need more heart as they don't produce taurine in their own bodies, but need it through diet.

I know I can buy some organs at my local supermarket, I’m always eating cooked lambs liver, if organs is the only issue I may be able to find a way to fit in in the freezer.

If you can do that, then the cat ones would work Mine don't like liver/organ in chunks, so I do a puree soup which they adore. Do one meal of heart, one meal of liver/organ, and one meal of half heart, one quarter liver/one quarter organ and go for the ones that contain only meat/bone.

That works, the store does everything from liver to kidney, if they don’t have it I also have a local butcher which has a lot of stuff, how often do they need to be fed? I see a lot of posts and info in what to feed them, but none for when, most of my animals are fed 3times a day. Some of them 2

Unless they are very young or ill, twice a day is good. If they finish everything in one sitting, give a bit more.

Younger kits will eat more than your older kits who've begun to slow down a bit. Kits can usually eat up to 4x the amount that an adult ferret will eat. Seasonal changes also has an effect, ferrets will eat more in the winter for example.
Adult female eats on average 1-3oz per day. Adult male eats on average 2-5oz per day.
Winter is creeping up here, my adult boys are stuffing around 3-4oz per day into their faces right now.

Definitely Babies will at times eat their own body weight in a day when younger.
