Oh my goodness Aftershock!! I just got home and I had left out 7.4 ounces of lamb sopuie with slivers thinking it was wishful thinking that they'd eat it all but hoping that they'd eat enough that we wouldn't waste much and IT WAS ALL GONE! AHH I'M SO PROUD OF THEM!! They ate all of that in about 7 hours. And Calamity is eating some more right now. I wonder if treating them for coccidia really did make a difference? Or maybe the timing just lined up nicely? Maybe I'll never know but dang I'm so proud of them!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *high five* GREAT JOB!
Honestly, it's possible the treatment helped, but I would like to think it was all you<3 I'd try offering a couple of chunks next feeding to see if they will take them (half an inch by an inch), I mean, the worst that happens is they ignore them and you have to cut them into slivers. No harm in trying, yeah? Furry little black holes<3

The whole "tummy with teeth" thing has made a lot more sense the last 48 hours! I just added a few chunks to their food and set the camera back up so we'll see! This whole recording thing has been awesome haha.

Well not terribly surprising but Calamity will eat the chunks (though she stashed one but ate the rest) and Rogue eats around them.

So they ate 5.9 ounces overnight. I put some larger chunks for Calamity and the rest filled with slivers. Definitely an increase in thickness.
Should I consider introducing another protein? And if so, should I use soupie for it? I'd like to get them to bone in as fast as possible and unfortunately I don't think there are any lamb bones that will work for them.

Yay! Go girls!
I can't help with the new protein, but so glad they're eating that much! Kits are definitely tummies with teeth, I feel like the boys are going to eat me out of house and home before long lol.

Hey Stacy, not gonna bug in on Kelsey(Aftershock) helping you with this, but I figured I'd at least give an answer on some while you wait for her response.
So, lamb bones tend to be too dense and what will most often happen, even when using something like rib ends, is that the little fuzzies will just munch off the meat from the bones and then leave the bone behind, which ends up making it only a muscle meal when they don't actually consume any bone.
As for when introducing a new protein, you don't NECESSARILY have to do soupie, you could try to go straight to slivers/chunks (of a size they already accept eating) and see what they will do with them first before resorting to doing another soupie.
But I'll let Kelsey give her advice on this and you follow what she says. ; P You and the girls have been doing very good this last while! <3

Ehehehehehe, sorry, got a bit sidetracked today. I officially set up my own shop yesterday, and I was finishing up an order today<3 I'm just so happy! I had to share the news! Lamb bones are definitely too dense. As Linda said, you could try slivers/chunks just to see what they do. There's no harm in trying them, if they don't eat them, you just cut them up smaller to the point that they will accept them. What other proteins were you feeding before you decided to do the protein trial?

Yay for setting up your own shop! How exciting! Congratulations!
Well, they only ate 1.8 ounces overnight last night (8 hours between when I put it out and this morning).
I did put lamb heart instead of chicken heart in this latest batch because I ran out of chicken hearts and had lamb. Could they be so finicky that that change of 1 ounce has thrown off the whole taste?
And they only ate 8.1 ounces total during the day yesterday. I say "only" because I've been spoiled for the last couple days and I'm trying really hard not to read too deeply into every ounce they do and don't eat. The vet says that the three days of coccidia treatment should be enough to kick it but to let her know if their appetite decreases again. Maybe their appetite has been back for a few days and they ate like crazy pants for a couple days and it'll even out or something. Trying not to stress but is oh so hard!
The other proteins I was feeding them that they at some point WERE eating but then boycotted food included chicken, rabbit, turkey, quail, beef, and duck. The only bones they would eat were chicken wings but they would eat all of them except for an itty bitty piece. Then they boycotted all food and that was that.

They ate LITERALLY nothing from when I left for work at 8am this morning and just got back around 4pm. Nothing. :(((((((
And they've had diarrhea today. Is this because of the lamb heart? They literally have eaten 1.8 ounces in the last 22 hours. I relaxed too soon and am back to being super worried. Maybe I need to get a longer coccidia treatment?
:(((((((

Okay so after shedding a few tears about the total back stepping, I left a voicemail and email for the vet to see about getting a continuation on their treatment just in case that's what it is. I called around for chicken hearts and the three stores that consistently has them are all out. One of them gets it in on Friday. So I made a batch of soupie without any heart and added some taurine instead which I know isn't ideal but I need them to eat something. Their energy levels are lower again. The vet isn't in until tomorrow (and I'm super unimpressed with their lack of urgency for my babies but there's nothing I can do about that) so I may not be able to do anything until then.
And I'll get more chicken hearts on Friday.
It seems like this whole thing shouldn't be this difficult. :(((

The vet's office called me back and filled another round of coccidia treatment and says the vet will get back to me first thing tomorrow morning. I started the treatment and, with some heavy coaxing with salmon oil and baby steps I've gotten them to eat about 4 ounces total so far tonight. I'll try again in a few minutes.
