Hi everyone, I'm not sure anyone is very familiar with me yet because I've only made a few posts but I'm in need of a large ferret cage that is able to house 2 ferrets. My husband and I just yesterday adopted a male ferret companion- Loki for our little furbaby- Luna and they get along quite well. Luna seems to be really happy to have a friend. But anyways, we have the Kaytee multi level ferret home from Petco 30.5L x 18W x 30.5H and need to upgrade to a better cage. All we can find though is the ferret nation cage which I do like but think it would be better to have at least the bottom floor full of bedding. What is the best cage that you have found, especially for 2+ ferrets? DIY ideas would really be appreciated as well. Thank you guys so much in advance.

From experience, anything other than a Ferret Nation cage, preferably Double, from Midwest Homes, is crap and the biggest waste of money ever. Currently I have 3 FN Double cages, two of them are set up in the ferret room, so my kids will nap in there, but the cage has two bottom doors removed for free access, as they free-roam their 300sqft bedroom at all times.
If you have some space, it's not hard to get multiple FN cages for cheap. Check your local classifieds site (for example I looked on KSL and Let Go). Just clean them really good, I used a bleach solution and sunshine, and rinsed with water, dried and then did vinegar and water again the following day. I got one FN Double off Amazon full price, another for $100 at only used for 6 months with no damages, and my last I got along with a cat tree and my latter two fuzzies Ares and Apollo, for $100 for all. So I pretty much got three FN Double cages, with exit ramps and extra covers (which I don't use as we made our own) for less than the price of 2 FN Doubles.

Even though the Ferret Nation has flaws, it's by far one of the better cages. There are a few that are trying to adopt similar and cheaper cages but they're not worth the money. I presently own 13 FN cages. They're easy to clean and keep clean. There are some safety issues but they can be easily addressed. ciao

Thank you all so much for your personal experiences! I think I'm going to check craigslist and amazon for the double ferret nation cages. I really wish they had more of a selection for ferret cages though. When we move we are going to let them free roam in their own room 😊

Am I able to connect 2 ferret nation double unit cages?

Yes, you can use zip ties to connect them to one another and you can take out the side panels that would be in the way between the cages. Just make sure to firmly connect the cages against one another, so you don't have gaps where a foot might get stuck.

I definitely agree, the ferret nation is the way to go. Just a tip, if you really wanted to fill the bottom with bedding, check these out...https://www.bassequipment.com/Store/ShopDetail/FP1-00/FERRET_NATION_PANS

That works absolutely perfectly! I just ordered the cage today from Dr Foster and Smith so it should be here in a few days plus it was 25% off so it was only $168 😁 Now I just need to figure out which pan to get for the bottom of the cage. Also is carefresh bedding okay to use?

Do you want to use it for their actual bedding? I wouldn't advise doing that myself. And that's from personal experience.. the floors and carpets I had to vacuum.. never again. I switched to using fleece bedding the second I got a chance and have never looked back again. Now, if you have a chewer on your hands that can pose a threat, but I believe I've read on the forum that some owners with chewer's end up using denim bedding.
Using bedding like that can also sometimes encourage them to just go potty anywhere on it, which makes it own whole mess to clean.
There may be others who have used it with success, but my experiences with it wasn't to my or my husband's liking at all.

That actually sounds like a great idea! I just know that Luna and Loki both love to dig around in the bedding ): but I'm definitely going to look into that, do you know where I'd be able to find some fleece bedding sets?
It really does get super messy with their bedding and although they do go in their litter box most of the time, I find that they use the bathroom in the corner across from it too. It's probably because the whole bottom of their cage is filled with bedding.

ameener I just made most of my own, like the fleece pan liners for the cage. I'm kinda OCD and I wanted them to fulfill certain requirements that none of the online options provided (there are people on Etsy who will sell and I think some of the members on the forum might know of more, perhaps they'll comment on here), eg. tight-fitting, and velcro sealed on the bottom to be out of reach from ferrets and also not allow ferrets to get inside the covers. So we took pan measurements, bought fleece and flannel (for the undersides so it was more cost-saving), and made the covers using the sewing machine. As for other fleece/soft bedding like blankets, I buy from several stores, just smaller fleece blankets like lap ones or baby ones. I've also gotten tons of great baby blankets from our local Thrift Stores.. and just washed the living daylights out of them several times before letting my furkids have them, haha.

That sounds like a great idea! Seems like I should take my sewing machine out and refresh my memory, haha. Thank you for the suggestion, it does seem like the most efficient way for my fur babies to be the most comfortable 😊
