Raw meaty bones....in other words a balanced raw diet, otherwise, you can try brushing that also works ciao

Read through the files and get a mentor to help you teach your ferret about real food. Almost all ferrets who've been weaned onto a specific food item, in your case kibbles, will react adversely to a different type of protein. It's how they're hard-wired. It's a matter of actually taking the time and teaching them. Most ferrets when first presented with raw food will react like you're poisoning them. It's not a big deal, it can be hard work but it's not a big deal. You asked how to fix tartar build up on your ferret's teeth without using a vet. The only way is by using a raw meat and bone diet. It's that simple. Otherwise, you brush their teeth every other day and you take them to the vet every few years to get their teeth cleaned. How often you have to have them vet cleaned will depend on genetics and how often you brush their teeth. If your looking for a miracle in a bag there isn't one ciao

I have never brushed a ferret's teeth, so I can't give you any info on that with experience. However you can start transitioning him to raw with the soupie and go from there. The recipe is here. holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/You will hold him in your lap and touch his mouth with soupie from off your finger. Let him go if he tries to get down. You will do this every few minutes. Yes he needs meaty bones to clean his teeth. I have to say my vet has been pleasantly surprised with my ferrets teeth---no tartar whatsoever. She is used to kibble fed ferrets. It is worth the effort.

Hi raw diet really is the answer I have judged ferrets all over the world I can pick out a kibble fed ferret or kit simply by opening its mouth you may think ok I will pay for the vet to clean them but that too comes with a big risk ferrets can die under anesthetic if you need an at home toothpaste for now try mixing a little ground up eggshell ( pound down to a fine dust ) then mix in a tiny amount of olive oil mix to a paste they dont like the teeth cleaning route so get ready for a fight and maybe a few bites good luck Bev
