I've been reading that it is good for them to have raw egg once a week or so but wanted to check in about giving raw egg to kits...they are 8 weeks old and underweight (not for much longer I don't think!). If it's okay for them to have, how much would be too much? Is one egg too much? Thank you!

Hi I would mix one egg in a little krm ( kitten replacer milk ) and give them this it contains vits and minerals so is a good top up for kits my kits were also introduced to warm scrambler egg for breakfast if you feel there under wight try adding in extra meals at eight weeks I would be feeding four meals ( breakfast, lunch tea time and late around 7) if feeding raw meat feed in the cage are they with mom ? if not I would add a top up of kitten replacer milk around 7 too as ferrets eat more between dawn and dusk and kits are just like the adults eat a big meal drink a good drink and off to sleep for an hour or two lol hope this helps take care bye for now Bev

These wee mites really just need food. At 8 weeks of age, I'm feeding full range of raw foods with a mush meal about every other meal (our soupy recipe). This is the meal that puts on weight. Our recipe calls for chicken but you can use any meat. Baby ferrets need to eat multiple meals per day. I feed 4x during the day and then a meal as I'm going to be at 4 am ciao

I'll go pick some up tomorrow. I can get some at a local pet store I imagine? Unfortunately, they are not with their mom. They're being fed 12 ounces three times a day of a mix of Urgent Care A/D and Beechnut brand chicken & chicken broth or beef & beef broth baby food. They're also being offered a cycle of Raw Instinct frozen rabbit or chicken bits or Stella & Chewy's chicken freeze dried raw. It seems like the first todays back from the vet they were insatiable and ate at least 5 meals. Then today they seem to have eaten a bit less but still three times of the 12 ounces of the mix plus one bowl of the thawed rabbit bits. They're still sleeping a lot and I can't decide if I'm worried about that or not. (They're also on antibiotics). Oh, and I was wondering...I bought a raw chicken wing. Can I cut this up into pieces and give them a piece to chew on? I assume I can but wanting to double check. I am reading the various raw feed threads but I worry about accidentally applying a strategy that is too soon for my little guys. Also, they're still not drinking from their bowl and I worry about this. They did get a rehydration pack injected into them on Thursday afternoon and they are getting liquid through each meal, but they're not interested in their bowl of water at all. I did see both of them drink out of it when I first got them on Tuesday but they haven't drank out of it since. Am I being paranoid or should I worry about their hydration? Thank you all for your help as I navigate these first few days!

They were eating about 5 meals a day for the last two days and then today only ate 4 and I wondered if their appetite is waning but perhaps they're getting caught up a bit. I bought a raw chicken wing to experiment with raw food that isn't commercial. I'm feeling a bit hesitant to have raw food just loose in their cage (just sounds real gross for the rest of the cage) so any advice for that would be great!

I would definitely be giving them wings etc as they are teething right now :-) And honestly, just toss a couple of wings in with them whole. They can work at it.

Should I take bedding out of the cage for this? I worry about the mess of it all. Not sure how to do it in a way that doesn't cause a big sanitation issue.

Everyone has their own levels of comfort but with the kits (that age) all I ever did was smash the bone a bit with an ulu or cleaver and let them go at it. As far as the blankets or such...created a feeding den if you're uncomfortable with the contamination. I use shower hooks and a tie down to keep the meats to a given area. ciao

Hi I would do as heather has suggested if your really worried you could buy a cheap plastic cat try ( or plastic dish depending on size of cage ) cut a few slits in bottom to secure on bottom of cage with wire or clips then hang meat from hooks as heather has suggested this way the meat stays put any pieces that fall are contained and the dish can be easily sanitized until the next meal hope this helps take care bye for now Bev
