I started them with adults and tried pinkies as treats well after they were used to eating prey so I think they just do not recognized them as food really and since they already ate the adults I never saw the point in forcing the issue lol!

So then should I get not pinkies to try out for the first introducing whole prey? Cause that is the goal is to do get them use to raw and meat taste and introduce whole prey

If you want to be able to give them as treats go for it! If it is not important to you than go for the gusto and just get some adult mice and rats and guinea pigs and quail! You can cut up the whole prey or at least cut it open to get them to try it.

I think i will try that, ordering a bigger mouse and cute it up. as for variety, i have pig meat: shoulder, loin and necks. they also get buffalo and elk too. in the morning im gonna put money on my card and order some organs and other meats too and maybe a different species of heart, im pretty disappointed with walmarts hearts and gizzard packages lol in total today i got 6 hearts from 2 packages, thats pretty awful in my eyes for how important hearts are to ferrets, so im gonna order some Drogon is getting use to the taste of the pork, buffalo, and elk....Ridley on the other hand just gorges himself, he loves them hahah. Drogon is like me

You can absolutely order whatever type of heart or organs you would like, just keep in mind they do not count in your variety count (not that I think that will be a problem! lol). I order all of my organs and heart from hare today. I also order duck and chicken necks from there and the fish too. My whole prey comes from Rodent pro.

Have you ever ordered whole prey from Hare Today? I have rodent pro saved on my computer as well but not sure how I feel about it since I've never ordered from them. Is any fish ok for ferrets? Boys seem to really enjoy pork as well,

I have ordered whole prey from hare today but they are more expensive and I feed 5 ferrets a mainly whole prey diet so Rodent pro it is and I have never had an issue with them. Yes pretty much any of the fish that hare today offers is fine, I only do it once a week or every other week for them.

And maybe feed chicks, rabbits and quail babies

You can order a whole rabbit and butcher it, I have done that and I get the adult quails from rodent pro and medium guinea pigs and chicks. The babies are a treat and not considered a real meal so you should not give them, them more than once a week. Hence why I get the adults of everything except chicks.

I'll try that, all but the guineas. My bf and myself agreed if we got the boys into whole prey that we would not feed guinea pigs as we have ours and love them dearly so mice rats and rabbits I'll have to get some

You will have plenty of variety without the guinea pigs so no worries. Here is a little lesson on organs for you, Lesson time! Today's lesson will be on organs! So we know that ferrets need 10% of their diet to be organs but do you know what organs are? Lets start with liver, liver should make up half of all organ consumption. It is high in vitamin A and C and in the mineral iron. When a ferret is feed liver as part of a meal their bowel movements are often a dark almost black color due to the iron content and on the looser side (looser BM's are true for any organ meat and also for plain muscle meat meals). Do not panic when you see a very dark and or looser stool after an organ meal but do keep on eye on the stools to be sure it goes back to normal. The other half should be the most varied combination of hormone secreting organs that you can get your hands on. The reason for this is simple, every organ has a different benefit to it based on the hormones it secretes. Examples of secreting organs are; spleen, kidney, brain, pancreas, thymus, thyroid, parathyroid, testicles/ovaries/uterus, gallbladder and green tripe. Most ferrets will not eat the green tripe (unprocessed stomach, but if yours will wooohoooo! (dance) That is great!) Now that we know what an organ meal should consist of lets do some math (I know it is so exciting! ) Just as an easy example if a ferret eats 2oz meals and you are feeding the frankenprey diet model then in one week you need to feed 1+1/2 meals of organs. So 1/2 will be liver and the other 1/2 will be other organ, this means that you will feed 1oz of liver and 1oz other organ for one meal and for the other meal that is only half (we usually combine this with the 1/2 heart meal to make a whole meal) you would give 1/2oz liver and 1/2oz other (that wasn't so hard now was it?! ) You can read more here also, Organs That is the end of this lesson, please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have about it!

I'm also getting organs from my local meat store as they got a bunch of meats in so I'll be going there. And at first I freaked when I saw the black poo but when I researched healthy ferret poops and so when I saw the pic I was relieved, but their poops are good and healthy. I'll also have better accurate weights on Friday
