So I thought I would try pinkies as a treat just to get them use to eating some whole prey. No interest...so I tried cutting them open a little bit. They sniffed a bit and picked them up but not really much interest. So I tried putting them into their heart and organs purée so we shall see how that goes. Any advice on how to get them interested in whole prey?

I started mine like you are. Chopped and mixed into food, then cut in half mixed in, then whole mixed in. Then whole alone. Once they accepted that, I started moving up the sizes. When they got to fur, I had to cut them open and fill with oil to start.

Sherry did you mix with just purée or with other raw meals as well?

Ahahah I'm going through threads to try to find good treats for the fuzzies and I read pickles. What is a pinkie though. I see it a lot on here. Is it a mouse?

aurra Pinkies are baby mice. These are not considered a meal though, since they are immature animals and thus not fully developed nutritionally yet, they can only count as a snack/treat for ferrets.

Day old mice, up to (I believe) 5 or 6 days old.

I did the same as Sherry but I skipped the pinkies and went right for the adults lol. I'm so glad you are trying the whole prey now! Also did a lot of hand feeding too.

I will read the guildlines before asking for a mentor .. Thanks sherry for answering so quickly... As I’ve mentioned when I first got to this form , I’m a slow learner * GASPS* lol But once I learn something I don’t usually forget 😊 I read that a member must answer the Q&A FIRST 👍 Before asking for a mentor ..
