evelynnwith3furbuts Medical expenses for ferrets can be quite high. That's why it's generally advised to have $1000 set aside per ferret. Now of course this isn't always feasible for everyone to have in savings, especially when you have multiple ferrets, but there are other options too. In the USA, many of us have applied for a CareCredit card, which tends to be accepted by most vets and can also be used for some of your own medical costs (eg. cosmetic procedures, dental, certain pharmacies/drug stores, etc.) too. This card ca be very, very helpful in case of an emergency like a surgery, which can sometimes easily run around the $1000+ range. So Bandit is really confusing me! The diarrhea is gone, the horrible bloody sneezing fits are gone and he's eating/drinking a lot and even playing! However, his breathing is still congested and he has started to breath through his mouth. My vet is out of town and the non ferret vet has said to bring him to her in order for him to get another round of clavamox (not sure what he needs). Any ideas? I don't want him to not be getting enough oxygen. evelynnwith3furbuts 300$ for his CBC at the er vet (very pricey) and he is somewhere around 6 or 7yrs old so that really didn't seem like a great idea for me at the time. Plus this is probably the 10th time he's been to the vet in the last 2mo.

LindaM that is so very true!! I have a care credit card for my animals (6) that is empty. I love having it for the emergencies... sadly I do have to pick and choose what tests to have and not to have because you are right, it adds up fast!! I could easily spend a ton to get Bandit diagnosed properly but at his age the vet said she doesn't think he has long even if I do have a diagnosis...this is heart breaking to me.

Not empty....Bandit racks up the bills! It's just been so much so fast that I forget how expensive he can be! ....But I love him *sigh*

not uncommon to have ferrets sneeze themselves into a screaming fit.
last January I got sick and must have passed it onto the ferrets, it seemed like they all got the same symptoms one at a time. 3 of the 6 would sneeze themselves into screams, I felt so ban for them, they could not and would not be consoled either, they would run off and hide in a corner away from everyone. They seemed to get over it pretty quickly, never had any blood though. I just kept them on thin soup to keep their hydration up while they were sick.
I hope Bandit recovers enough to have some good days in his final years.

Sorry for not responding sooner, I have trouble getting the forum to work most days. I'm making the switch to tapatalk today to avoid this problem. The vet believes Bandit has pneumonia he is really struggling and I have been staying up nights with him. His nose drippings have dried up and now he is so severely congested he is mouth breathing all the time. I have been running the shower, using a humidifier, ferret rx, saline drops, another round of clavamox, and now oil in his food because he developed extremely itchy flaky skin. I don't know what else I can do?! He has slowed WAY down on eating as of last night and that scares me. I'm so lost. msav thank you for that info. His screaming fits nearly gave me a heart attack. He has since stopped those, probably due to everything in his nose turning to concreate

Oh no, the poor fuzzer! I am so sorry to hear. First thing first, do NOT use FerretRX, it contains an Essential Oil I believe, and that would be toxic to your fuzzy. For the itchy skin, a soothing oatmeal bath may help him. Use some normal oats, not the instant stuff, in a sock and let it infuse in the water as your pour into the tub, then take it out and let your fuzzy have a soak in it. If need be, you may have to feed him in your lap with a spoon to make sure that he is eating food. Gonna tag Sherry and Heather, they might be able to add something to do when a fuzzy has pneumonia. Good luck and please keep us updated. Pneumonia is a hard struggle so we will keep your guys in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the advice. His skin seems to be improving fast with the addition of the oils I saw in another post. He's asleep in his litter box right now so an oatmeal soak may be in order tonight. Ferret rx: balsam, camphor, usp, origanum, rosemary, corn oil. I'll stop using it but any idea which of those I need to watch out for? I got him to eat I just had to heat it a little longer I guess to help him smell it. I'm scared my other boys are going to get this too. His nose is really dry and I can see the stuff blocking it, can't get to it though

The Camphor in that will be considered an EO, as well as Balsam actually. Both are dangerous as herbs to animals already, and so much more so as an EO. Here's a previous thread in which it is mentioned: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/22687/

Wow, I feel like a fool. I've always stayed away from EO's because I have a cat, little did I know that's what those oils were in the ferret rx. My poor bandit, I'll stick with just the saline drops.

I try to avoid anything Marshall's a bit like it's the plague. They're in one business only, the business of taking your money any way they can. They sell you a ferret, their products help make the ferret sick, ferret dies, and then you buy another ferret from them. That's how they do business, sad and horrible as it is, that's pretty much the truth of it.
Most products commercially marketed and sold for ferrets aren't good or healthy for the ferret at all, and are best just avoided.
