How's it going with you guys starting off with soupie? Are you documenting your soupie diary every two days now before the mentor? Is anyone using the soupie recipe they gave us for the application? Do you still feed your ferrets kibble for the switch? I have a kitchen scale to weigh food, could I use that for my ferrets?

You really should use the soupie recipe from on here, it's balanced. Making up your own can make it unbalanced and an unbalanced raw diet is dangerous. What you CAN do though, is make the soupie with different proteins.. eg. a pork soupie using pork meat and pork organs, or even just using pork meat with the chicken organs still. The reason the soupie is using chicken, is that chicken is easy to obtain and a mild smelling and tasting meat, so it's easy to start off with and you will progress from that to chicken slivers - chicken chunks - chicken wings (as it's an easy bone-in meat to begin with). Different meats have different levels of smell and taste. Pork is another rather mild one. Beef on the other hand has a strong smell and taste and takes a bit of extra work with most fuzzies.
It is best practice to allow your ferrets to have kibble until they see the soupie as food, ie. they will eat it from the bowl of their own volition. That way you don't need to fear putting out only soupie and the ferret doesn't see it as food, ignoring it and starving themselves. But once they eat from the soup by themselves without you trying to entice them, you can get rid of kibble for good. At least, this is how it usually goes with older ferrets, kits will often skip stages of the switch because of how easy they are to switch. When I got my last two ferrets at 7 months old, I switched them to raw the very day I got them.
You can most definitely use the kitchen scale for weighing your fuzzards. Use a nice round mixing bowl, tare (zero) the scale to the weight of the bowl by placing it on first and zero-ing. Then place fuzzy in the bowl, that tends to give the easiest readings. You can use a drop of salmon oil if you need to keep them interested, but most scales can weigh pretty fast so it might not be needed.

Here is a little something if you are a person who likes a visual. It is a you tube showing preparation of soupie. Can be a little lengthy tho.

I think that would be a good idea. I had a self switching thread before i got my mentor. People can comment and help you.

@happyferrethappylife How is it going? Have you made any progress on your own? Are you still wanting a mentor?
