So I just got my little guy and have had him about a month. I've been taking him for walks, he LOVES outside and has a playpen inside where we spend some tome(he runs around and ignores me wanting to pet him unless I'm doing tickle monster with him). So bad news: my apartment has changed and added an addendum to their pet terms, where now even caged animals (I count him as that because he doesn't get free run of the place, only tile areas due to his affinity for carpet) require a hefty fee and a maximum of 2. Well Rocket is #3. If this doesn't resolve, while it makes me want to cry, he might have to go. I feel horrible, because I always set myself as a forever home person. I just don't know how to go about if he does need to find a new home, how to do it. Most of the sanctuaries are hours away and say only emergency cases are they accepting. Any ideas, help here if the worst should happen?
Thanks all.

Oh no - so sorry to hear! Are there any other apartments or rentals nearby you could move to that allow pets? Or maybe you could find a solution by talking to your landlord and how you're really stuck in this situation?

We had to pay a $500 pet deposit. Since this has happened AFTER you started living there, they should be willing to let you pay it over 2 or 3 months. And how often is your place inspected? Odds of them discovering you have 3 instead of 2 ferrets are actually pretty low. If an inspection DOES take place, simply remove one of the ferrets until it is over. They have to give 24 hrs notice anyway. Just drop him/her at the vet for a day's boarding.

I've done exactly as Sherry mentioned. When we moved to an apartment, the lease said 2 animals ($200 deposit, and monthly $30 per pet). I had Hades my cat, and Loki my first ferret. They put only Hades on the lease though, I suspected because they think ferrets are cage animals. I eventually ended up with 5 animals total. Ferrets just end up in their cage which has a curtain to block light and prying eyes when an inspection occurs.
