Hi! I just recently started switching my ferrets to raw, and I have a grinder that says it can grind soft/tiny bones such as chicken wings... That lead me to think that I could also grind up mice? I would feed them whole but my ferrets have never known what to do with it. (They have bone in their diet so don't worry about that) Is that something people do?

Grinding whole prey unless gutted first would be an awfully smelly business lol. You can do it though for sure! Have you tried cutting up the mice for them or even just cutting them open for them?

Smell doesn't bother me! I have plenty of unused scented candles and a Himalayan salt holder for them haha! No better time to make a dent in my collection. I have cut up pinkies for them, coated it in salmon oil, the whole thing and still nothing. Picky buggers!

Try cutting open a whole mouse and holding your ferret, then find a nice bloody part and get the blood on your ferrets mouth, usually once they get the taste of that it is all good. A warning about scented candles, most of them use essential oils for the scents and those oils can build up in the ferrets fur and cause sickness.

To add about the candles, they can also breathe it in from the air, and this will then accumulate inside their little bodies with no way for them to expel it, and can thus lead to renal failure and vital organs shutting down.

You guys are right! Thank you for reminding me about that. The kitchen is far away from their cage but I still won't use them just to be safe. I'll just grind them outside if I have to.
