There is something about feeding pork that just makes it stink bad all around.
The meat itself smells the worst when I clean the residue from the containers.
The poops are the strongest smelling as well.
and it's the only meat I feed them where they actually belch and it smells like rotting broccoli. Utterly disgusting.
I only feed it to them one day out of the week, but I'm thinking about switching it out with a leaner meat anyway since I'm trying to make them lose weight.

Really? Pork is usually a very mild meat and tends to have a "sugary/sweet" smell to me and everyone I know agrees (that said, the only pork I will actually eat myself is bacon). By comparison, I'd say lamb is one that reeks, lol. I can't stand that one in almost any form, frankenprey, commercial grinds, freeze-dried raw, canned... yuck. But my ferrets still eat it.
You can do rabbit for a lean meat, we've never had any issues with that one and our fuzzbutts love rabbit as much as they do their fatty duck.

Rabbit is a funny one with them. They absolutely love the rabbit organs, but do not care for the meat itself. I've tried many times, doesn't matter if bone in, grounds, they just turn their noses at it.
I was thinking about alpaca maybe? This up coming month I'll order a small bit and try it and see.

If you have an Asian/Ethnic store nearby, you could also try Frog Legs.. it would be one of your bone-in meals, but frog is another lean meat. You may have to see how your fuzzies react to it though if they've never had them before, some seem to have instant addicted love while others think it's straight from the devil lol.

I don't have a problem with pork. I don't feed it a lot but other than the organ meats (which my guys hate) I've found it doesn't smell any worse than any other meat. ciao

For mine Salmon is the worst. I have stopped giving them salmon oil as it makes their room stink so bad.

What brand of salmon oil did you use before msav? I've used both Grizzly and Alaska Naturals, and while it does stink if you sniff your finger or hand after using it and may take more than a single hot wash to get off, we've never experienced a problem with it like that, and our ferrets practically LIVE in our bedroom, it's their preferred spot in our home to be. Never really noticed it to make a difference to poop smell or coat smell in mine.

Hmm, maybe it was just that particular salmon oil that smelled extra strong?

I think it is kind of lean though. Not for sure. Are you getting one that has no added salt or solutions? I have to diligently comb the pork section to find something natural---and you got to watch that Natural tag too sometimes.

Now that I think of it, I trim their nails once a week and I use the grizzly salmon oil, which is always pork day and looking at the best by date was 4APR06. I'll get them a fresh bottle and see if that was the cause.

I checked yesterday when I got home, The salmon Oil I have is Iceland Pure Unscented Pharmaceutical Grade Salmon Oil
I did not think to check the expiration date, Perhaps it is past the date I have had it quite some time. Though I always remember it making their poop stink more that normal.

For me, feeding my dog fish is the worst. I just gave her some whole sardine today, and after she ate she gave me her kisses like she always does. Well, I loved the kisses but hated her fish breath! lol

I've never had an issue with feeding pork and I've fed both lean and fatty cuts. Personally, kidney is my least favorite here. Kidney smells like meaty garbage to me, and it smells that way when it comes out their cute booties. Liver does the same, but I'd rather smell intense bloody iron smell over meaty garbage any day.
