I'm so, so glad that your wee boy is doing better. Poor wee mite, hang in there little one! It definitely sounds like he is doing better and his temperature more normal now. Nobody have the flu, even minor symptoms, in the last few weeks, not even a visitor? Ferrets cannot get the rhinovirus (common cold) from us people, but they can definitely get influenza (the flu).

Good luck. Keep us posted. Keeping him hydrated and fed is going to be the most difficult part of the next few days. If at any time you feel worried or feel that he's in difficulty breathing don't hesitate to get him back to the vet. This is a very dangerous disease bacterial or viral (it could be either). The vet might be leaning toward viral if his response to the meds is not as she was hoping to see. You don't have to have seen any illness in anyone, your immunity is not his and he may well not have any antibodies to fight that particular virus. It's similar to why someone in a family seems to catch everything going or why one person out of the family doesn't catch the cold that everyone else got. ciao

i.imgur.com/GGKGIMf.jpgScouts temperature is at 100.7 now. We are giving him small steam treatment and that really helps his breathing as he sleeps. Scout has been wanting to eat his formula a lot , but not so much for drinking. He has bouts of energy when he wakes up, but then flops back onto the ground breathing kind of heavily but not as bad, and without the whistle. I'm not sure why but Scout hasn't been peeing, which is a concern too. He does poop though every now and then, but when he poops he grunts and whimpers, having a slight difficulty pooping. If we were to put him on a raw meal again while he's sick, is there something different we would have to do? We were thinking of blending his chicken meat into something like baby food. Thank you everyone!

YOu could try making a soupy of his raw, like you did when he was first being switched. Watch his stools closely to see he's digesting it properly (watch for undigested fats). With that high fever he had (around 102 is considered normal...gives you an idea of his metabolic rate) he will be dehydrated which is probably why he's not urinating. Try getting him to take more soupy if you can. He needs more fluids. It may be that you will have to take him in for some sub q fluids. I can remember Bacchus at this stage of the game. Complete rest, fluids, don't let him exert himself except to go to the litter box and to eat. Keep at it you're doing great, both of you ciao

We took his temperature and his temp lowered to 99.7... his breathing is kind of ok, sometimes it gets super fast and then becomes a slower/normal rate. Today he started peeing though, and that is good.will feeding him tiny raw minced chicken be ok for him? The whistling sound when he sleep is back, and every now and then he makes this odd noise that sounds like a cough

There is still moisture found in the bits of raw chicken, though maybe not enough to give him more proper hydration if he's dehydrated from all this. It's a good sign that he's peeing again though. Are the puddles very small or decently sized? Have you checked for signs of dehydration in him? Checking the scruff for them isn't always as accurate as it should be, but checking gums works pretty well. Gums should be nicely pink, moist and smooth, not appear pale and feel sticky/gummy to the touch. You could try to see if some chicken broth (cooked at home, not bought, and just plain, no spices, no salt or anything like that) might help increase his fluid intake to get him better hydrated since he doesn't want the soupie. Heather, opinion?

Will he try the soup if you hand feed him? If not, give him as much as he will eat of what he will. His temperature is dropping a bit low. They are normally about 102 degrees.

We take his temperature through his rectum, Even though his fur is soft, he is shedding a lot too, is this something normal?
His breathing is becoming closer to normal breathing rate now, and this morning he climbed out of the tub we monitor him from. Which I would think mean Scouts strength is coming back...
Also his temperature now is back at 101.7 We tried feeding him just broth but he didn't like it, we end up again just letting him have his minced chicken meat, he ate it and pooped it later on. Things look like its getting much better for him! I'm so happy this board exist, it means a lot to have this community's support and guidence.

That's great news, so glad to hear that he seems to be getting on the track to mend now. Continue to keep a close eye on him though until you can be sure he is fully through all this.

Yes shedding this time of year is very normal. Honestly if he doesn't like the raw soup I'd just feed him normally. The soup would just be to try to hydrate him more. But regular raw meat still has a lot of moisture in it, and will help with hydration better than eating nothing or not enough.

Thank you everyone for the support and care, we had been doing very well since then... however, lately scout has been sick again. One of his hind legs started to tremble, almost looked like a muscle spasm. He couldnt walk on it, and favored the other leg when walking. At times now he runs and then stops, and just lays on the ground to rest. He eats food but it has to be force fed, the only thing he really eats sometimes is chicken skin and egg yolk (he loves the yolk the most) he can poop and pee, but the main concern is sometimes after drinking water, he would cough....and today hes been super lethargic. Today one of his hind leg has been trembling again, and he just makes a whimpering sound... I checked around on google and came across this page : holisticferretforum.com/health/heart-disease/heart-disease-symptoms/the coughing in the ferret video matches exactly to Scouts... he also has a loss of muscle mass, especialy in his hind legs...when he runs, i notice his hips looking very small and kind of pushed in, as well as his stomach looking rather round in comparions...but when we hold him up, his body looked relatively normal shape. We think the vet we went to, at avians animal hospital may have not picked up on possible heart disease? she did say there was a bit of blood in the lungs...but we seem to believe now that it could have been beneath the lungs? and right now with scout, this maybe early signs of heart disease? we aren't sure, we are just holding on by giving him fluid and food to eat, and lots of rest...but it seems like day by day he just seems more sick...
