Oh boy as the kits are getting bigger vic is getting worse, I'm actually scared of her, she has become the devil in ferret clothing. All she wants to do is kill.. Do they go back to normal once the kits leave them

LOL....yes. You poor sod. I so know where you're coming from. I don't know your set up but my wee she-daemon was very happy to go out and tease the other ferrets for about 5 or 10 minutes giving me some peace so I could clean her bedding, empty litter boxes and check on the babies (she's like that when she has her airbabies too). I swear she developed horns when she birthed those kits. Gentle loving...yah right....I've seen friendlier grizzly bears and would sooner hand feed a wolverine. I had to make sure her babies never so much as squeaked or she'd be on me like a tsunami (and about as gentle). Once her kits grew up (I kept them), she became her usual sweet self, willing to give short snuggles and quick kisses. ciao

lol as heather has said they soon revert back to normal usually once the kits are around five/ six week mum is pretty fed up ( teeth hurt ) and she is willing to let you pick her up and let her have a 15 min break lol normally at that age I am taking the big food pressure off mum by feeding kits four times a day ( mom only supply's a milk feed during the night ) and pretty soon she stops that too poor baby kit teeth are like needles lol heather hit lucky her jill loves her but she is a female lol and her jill knows mum isnt going to make her have kits now her husband on the other hand maybe punished because he smells of male hormone lol your hard work has just begun lol wait until those darling kits are on solids boy will you have some nice corners to clean lol its amazing what comes out I swear it somehow trebles in the short time food is in there lol take care bye for now Bev

Hi all, everyone is doing great and baby's are getting bigger and bigger by the day, poor bear is having a a terrible time trying to keep her baby's under control, once she puts one back in the nest another comes out. She is backwards and forward all day. Well here goes another question lol. What age do I start to offer the baby's meat, as every time I feed the mums the baby's seem to try and get to the food. Another question When the baby's are a bit older I want/ kind of need to put them and both mums together as I feel that once they start to run around there isn't going to be enough room in there breeding quarters that I had to make them. What age is best to do this, both mums get on great still, so there shouldn't be to much trouble with them, it's just the baby's I'm worried about

Hi at around 3 weeks old I start them on a raw meat mush ( simply meat blended with bonemeal a hard boiled egg and a little kitten replacer milk or water blend to a soup each day add less water put mum out of the way for five mins then place your kits around the saucers ( you may have to smear a bit around the mouths before they realize this is food i can lap lol they get in a real mess let mum back with them after five mins she will curse at you lol but she will clean them up and also all of the left over soup lol she doesn't realize your doing her a favor full bellies mean sleep and a rest for her lol you can give them ground meat on week four week five move to chunks ( so they have to practice chewing lol) and week six its whole prey they get pretty clever at stripping down a rabbit with mums help lol good luck if the mums get along fine you should be ok kits accept any kits no matter how they smell and nursing mums usually are not aggressive to babies personally I would wait until they where weened onto solid food that way there is no need to nurse from a jill as the kits may pick on the wrong mums lol good luck take care bye for now Bev

Well I went for it last night and again tonight. I gave them mashed up mince with water and bonemeal last night and tonight they got blended chicken with mince and water. Oh boy can they eat, they turned into a pack of lions, screaming and pushing each other out the way, I just couldn't believe how much they eat

lol sounds like your task has just begun lol (sorry it does get worse and so does the piles of poop in the corner lol) this is the reason no one ever makes any money from breeding kits and feeding them right ! each day gets more expensive that the last as those cute monsters gobble down more lol take care bye for now Bev
p.s if you are getting the heat like we are soak a towel and lay it hanging down the front of one side of the cage this gives them a bit shade and a cool corner

What adorable wee mites They're so much fun at this age. No real coordination, their bite hasn't got nasty yet because it's not that strong....it's a good time. Age to take them away from mom....you're going to hear a huge variety here. I like 12 weeks, they're solid by that time. They know how to use a litter box, they've had some bite inhibition training they're starting to develop their personalities and they're much braver. I would say no earlier than 10 weeks but that's me. ciao
