This morning I let my ferrets out as usual, and Casper didn't want to play which is weird for him, he started making wheezing noises, and started to run a temp. so i took him to the vet. He was running a temp of 105. Then he had diarrhea on the table, so the vet said he had an infection and injected him with a medicine.
is there anything I can do for him since hes still making wheezing noises?

I hope the vet sent him home with some antibiotics? What type of infection? Respiratory, intestinal? Respiratory infections usually need a course of antibiotics to clear up with ferrets.

Please, more information...an update? If you're little one has a respiratory infection, he will need a 2 week round of antibiotics or a course of anti virals ciao

well, if it is a respiratory infection, then an injection alone is most likely not going to do it. if your vet suspects this, then he should be on oral antibiotics as well and as heather said these should be given for about 10 to 14 days. someone once told me to let the hot water run in the shower and sit in the bathroom with him and let him breathe in the vapors. this did help one of mine when he had an infection. i can imagine that it will suck for you because it is like sitting in a sauna while holding a mink stole.... clean his room, bedding, etc. really well, get rid of any dust. don't use harsh chemicals though. i never use bleach around ferrets because some of them have some major issues with they inhale that. i do too actually, it darn near knocks me out. just use water with some white vinegar to clean. marshalls used to sell a respiratory remedy but i've never used it before. i actually see it at the stores all the time. i'd keep his room at about 72 degrees if possible. lots of fluids and make sure he is eating. if you see green or yellow mucous coming out of his nose, this is a very serious situation and he will need to go on some heavy duty antibiotics via an IV

Here are some questions to ask:
What's the diagnosis? What is his treatment plan? What medications will he be using?

Please keep us posted. If you have a tendency to forget your questions when dealing with the vet (sometimes one's mind doesn't work as fast as we like and we think of all these things when we're driving away), write your questions down. I do. I try and cover as much ground as possible when I've got my vet pinned down. She's very busy and often works quickly leaving no time for my old mind to catch up. By writing all my questions down, I can deal with these one item at a time ciao

I do the same, because I know I'll get caught up in fuzz being sick, and not think about what I needed to know til I'm on my way home.

You do realize that a ferret cannot contract the human rhinovirus? So not a cold. Out of curiosity, does your vet see ferrets regularly?

not really the nurses were saying ive never seen a ferret before but the other vets office i normally go to is closed when i can take my animals to the vet. I was told ferrets can catch a cold or flu if you have had one dang... ive been misinformed I wish my normal vet was open...

Can you get some chest x rays done and send them to your normal vet? If be concerned about an untreated upper respiratory infection...

I would take him to another ferret knowledgeable vet ASAP. I would be concerned that it is something more serious. How do you know he was running a fever? Did you use a rectal thermometer? A ferrets normal rectal temp is bw 100-104 A lot of inexperienced vets will say that a ferret has a fiber when it does not. How is your ferret breathing? And how old is your ferret?
