Hey Heather! I have a question I wanted to ask.
I've noticed that Titus and Lily for some reason always enjoy eating their food in the corner of the litter box (away from the poop). My concern is that some of the litter pellets get stuck onto the meat, and I'm not sure they can differentiate between the two and end up eating the litter as well.
I'm using this litter called "Yesterday's News" which is made up of recycled paper. Should I do anything? Is this very dangerous?

Mine and many others do the same thing. In the wild they would keep their stash very close to where they went to the bathroom as a way to mask the smell of the food. I use recycled paper pellets also the pellets get knocked off as they eat. No worries! How are exmas going?

That's a relief!
I've got 2 final papers and three exams all spaced over the next two weeks! Can't wait to be done with them so I can focus on other things hehe

Hi Heather, I have a bit of an emergency on my hands. I picked up Lily today and noticed that one of her bottom canines seems to have broken off. What should I do? Is this a huge problem?

Bring her to the vet, It should not be a huge problem if she gets the proper care for it. Good luck!

Hi Heather, everything was fine. The vet looked her over and said she didn't seem to be in pain because the tooth broke above the root. She's been fine ever since and is playing as per normal.
Their menu has been pretty consistent, and they are eating normally and having fun as ferrets do. This past month has been pretty peaceful and it seems that the future is going to be quite stable!
I really couldn't have done it without you haha

Glad everything was well with her! Here is your test and if you could please post a menu for Heather to approve and include a list of all of the protiens they are eating at the end of it that would be great and we can get you graduated!
1.)Why are hearts important in a ferrets diet and if you run out of heart what can you use to replace it until you get more heart?
2.) How often should you feed and how long and should a ferret ever be without food?
3.) Name three edible bone in items.
4.) Name three organs.
5.) If you need a short term bone replacer what can you use and how much?
6.) Does freezing degrade taurine?

1) Because they contain Taurine, which is incredibly important for ferret health. If heart is not available, brain, tongue or raw beef works as well.
2) Twice a day, and 24 hours without food at maximum. (Less if they have insulinoma)
3) Chicken Wings, Pork Rib Ends, Whole Prey
4) Kidney, Brain, Spleen
5) I can use bone meal powder, 1/2-3/4 tsp per 10 oz or crushed eggshells
6) No, freezing does not affect taurine. Only cooking.
Saturday 1 meal muscle meat 1 meal liver/kidney
Sunday 1 meal heart 1 meal bone-in meat
Monday 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
Tuesday 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
Wednesday 1 meal bone-in meat 0.5 meal liver/kidney 0.5 meal heart
Thursday 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
Friday 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal muscle meat
Chicken Liver, Wings, Heart Pork Kidneys
