Also, while I'm currently transitioning them to eat bones, how do I simulate the amount of calcium intake required for one bone-in-meat meal using bone meal powder?

Stool should be soft and formed/firm when smushed between a napkin when bone content is balanced well. When I say hard I mean like little pebbles or bones when smushed between a napkin or something. The amount of bone meal is the same as egg shell powder so 1/2 - 3/4 tsp per 10oz, just sprinkle it on top of the meat. Last lesson I have, Credit to Machan for this, I lterally just copied and pasted her hard work! Time for a short lesson for today! This lesson is on Taurine, a very important nutrient for our ferrets. Read it in your spare time~

Thanks for the great lesson heather!
I've actually made great progress again. I finished the mince, so I'm feeding them chunks of thigh and organs. The chunks are about the size a quarter of a chicken heart.
6/5 1 meal muscle meat 1 meal liver
7/5 1 meal heart 1 meal bone-in meat (technically muscle meat but with bone meal powder)

Great, until they are eating bones you should dust all their meals with the bone meal. Have you had any luck sourcing any other organs yet?

So far, the only other organ I've found apart from liver and heart is gizzard!
By the way, what does intestinal blockage feel like? I was feeling Lily yesterday, and I thought there was a small bulbous slightly hard object in her lower half. I gave her an egg yolk and she poops fine, but I'm still a little worried, because she's been the one who keeps eating random things.

Hi Heather, I need some advice.
I smashed two chicken wings for the both of them today, and they ate it just fine. The only problem is that soon after, Titus starting vomiting chicken meat all over the place. He vomited about 3-4 times, then stopped. Is this normal?
Lily is perfectly fine.

The only problem is that soon after, Titus starting vomiting chicken meat all over the place. He vomited about 3-4 times, then stopped. Is this normal? Lily is perfectly fine. He may have eaten too quickly or had a small bone lodged or stuck in his teeth. Keep an eye on him and try to check in his mouth for anything stuck. How is he doing now? If ever you need immediate advice please feel free to post in our face book group and tag me there, I'm Heather Losthermind Gorman there. This way you will get an answer much faster then waiting for a reply here. I do not think you needed to do that in this case, I just want to make sure you know what to do if it is ever needed. You could start it out something like Heather is my mentor but I need advice quick please and tag me, katt, sherry and heather downey. As far as the other organs go.... gizzards are not considered an organ for dietary purposes. Do you have a butcher close to you or any asian markets? Those are the best local places to find other organ types and some different protein types also.

I've applied to join!
Yes, that would be really ideal. He seems to be fine now. He finished throwing up and is back to playing with Lily/Trying to climb onto my desk/Exploring the back of the washing machine.
I stay in Japan so I think every market here would be considered Asian? Haha, the only butcher near me is a supermarket with a wider range, but even they don't sell any other organs apart from liver, heart, and gizzard.
From what I know, finding wider ranges of meat is pretty hard over here. It was already a challenge finding a place that sold heart and liver.

Yes I suppose they would all be Asian markets then! lol Do you have any online options to be able to order them in?

I will check online via amazon!
By the way Heather, I had another question regarding ferret health. From time to time, their poop gets really funky. I don't mean smelly. It smells almost chemical/toxic. It hurts my eyes and my nose when I smell it, and this worries me. Is this a problem? Their poop ranges from a variety of different colors, dark green, dark brown, and medium brown/yellow. I know this is because of detox, but I'm still somewhat alarmed.

I do not think it is an issue but you should pay attention to those particular poops and see if it happening when you are feeding a particular thing. I hope you have some luck finding some organs online. I tried to see if I could find any available to you but I did not have the best of luck. Even if you can find a freeze dried option that you can rehydrate until you can source other options that would be helpful. If you could do an entire 7 day menu including what proteins were included that day, that would be awesome and easier for me to tell if it is balancing out.

This is the menu that I've given to them over the week.
6/5 1 meal muscle meat 1 meal liver
7/5 1 meal heart 1 meal bone-in meat
8/5 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
9/5 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
10/5 1 meal bone-in meat 0.5 meal liver 0.5 meal heart
11/5 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal bone-in meat
12/5 1 meal bone-in meat 1 meal muscle meat
Also, quick question regarding meat spoiling. I have a bunch of raw chicken that went past the best-by date 3 days ago. The smell isn't that good, and I wouldn't eat it myself. But considering what you mentioned earlier about ferrets having short digestive tracts and having no problem with bacteria, is it okay for Titus and Lily to eat it?

Usually ferrets will not eat it if it has gone rotten for them. You could try but my personal preference is to not give it to them if it smells bad to me. Menu looks good. Normally we would have another organ in with the liver so you could actually have 2 heart meals instead of 1.5 of the organs until you can source other organs. Too much liver is not good for them either.

I tried giving them the meat, and they snapped it right up. I suppose that wasn't a problem then. My budget is a little tight, so I'll make sure to remember to freeze the meats properly next time.
Regarding thawing the meats: I usually slap them in the microwave to defrost them. Sometimes they come out slightly browned on the edges. Does this deduct from the nutritional value of the meat?
