I dont think that these are ear mites but I just want to see someone else's opinion. Ive gone to the vet twice and both times none of my ferrets had ear mites (so they said. when a vet tech was determining she had to ask several other people if 'this' looked like an egg). My ferrets HATEHATEHATE getting their ears cleaned which im sure the majority do. So I cant tell if this is a bunch of gunk build up or mites. They physically will not let me clean their ears sometimes so its extremely hard to keep them clean. However my poor baby is always scratching at his ears :-( i32.photobucket.com/albums/d48/courtneeeeey9/IMG_0778171_zpsiuz9nukm.pngi32.photobucket.com/albums/d48/courtneeeeey9/IMG_0777170_zpscpmviukm.pngits also darker in person that it is in the picture and has more wax than it looks

Ear mites are black. If it's black, you should consider it likely to be ear mites

Kitten/Puppy Revolution can treat ear mites and is probably the easiest method in eliminating them.

The stuff you see from mites will remind you of coffee grounds. I assume a swab examined under a microscope was done? They would find them if any were there. And just so you are aware, the more you clean the worse the build up becomes. If you have multiple ferrets, wipe the exterior of the ear(never put down INTO the ear) with something like extra virgin olive oil, and the others will clean the ears for them
