I'm trying to set up a remote litter box for my girls. The way I've decided to attach to the cage is with a couple of pieces of plywood. Basically I'm going to connect the tunnel to one piece of plywood. This would go on the ouside of the cage with the tunnel poking through. Next I will have a second piece of plywood with a hole cut out on the inside of the cage. The bars would be sandwiched between and the pieces secured with wing nuts. Basically it will secure a lot like the locking crocks to the side of the cage. I thought this would both secure the tunnel and cover any sharp bits when I cut the bars out of the cage.
So I'm not too worried about the wood getting smelly because it's a pretty small piece and I can replace if necessary. I'd still like to seal it somehow. What paint/sealant would you recommend?
My second question is I've noticed people talking about something outside the box for them to butt scoot on. What do people recommend for this? I bought a small pack of puppy pads. Is there something better I should use?

To answer the second question first, yes the puppy pads will be fine as long as they don't tear them up(given they will be poking out from under the litter box in the remote bin shouldn't be an issue). For the first they won't be peeing on it so the wood should be fine as is. However I strongly recommend using a blast gate at the cage end so you shut it off when changing/cleaning the litter and you don't want them out of the cage. Here is a link to the type of connections you need: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/7239/tunnel-cage-system

Thanks for your help sherry. Firstly I love that cage system. It's pretty awesome. The reason I decided not to go with the dryer dock was the cost. I really liked it, but the cost here is high. I'll probably get one one day, but for now I have another system sort of worked out. I got this end cap www.bunnings.com.au/reln-100mm-stretch-agi-pipe-end-cap_p4770286 for if I need to block off the hole. I think it's this piece www.bunnings.com.au/reln-100mm-stretch-agi-pipe-spigot_p4770288 is attached to my little wooden plywood piece on the cage. Then the tunnel screws onto that. It won't be as quick and easy as the dryer dock, but it will mean I can take the tunnel if I need to. I'm going to do a similar plywood system on the box so the tunnel can be removed from the box too. Then I can take the whole tunnel away and clean it if I want. I just hope my ideas work out. I started trying to make it yesterday but decided my random off cuts of wood don't leave enough left over around the edge of the pipe, so I have to go shopping before I can finish. Will post photos when it's done.

Sounds like a plan! And when it IS done, please post it in the remote litter box thread
