jasper - ellie - (excuse the lady nipple ::laugh-out-loud:: ) frankie - phew, that should not have been so hard! stupid photobucket.. thank you @machan they're making me super proud thanks katt (cant tag you for some reason) i'm going to find another vet asap. someon on the hff facebook page has recomended a vet an hour from me. but i dont want to make the trip untill i can get a better carrier for them, i think 3 of them in a cat carrier is too cramped for a 2.5 - 3 hour trip. i think a friend at work may have an old guinea pig cage i can borrow. also the car is about dead. 3 weeks after spending £200 on it's MOT so i don't think it's going to get us there. but please dont worry, it should all be sorted & hopefully i can get them in by the end of next week. this is the 4th vet we've been to & the 4th thats badly let us down. the 1st 1 (lol) we went to with a suspected intestinal blockage, which turned out to be a false alarm. she said she's never done exploritory surgery on a ferret before but "we can give it a go" the next one said that jasper "probably has lymphoma & the others have probably contracted it from him" she wouldn't elaborate on that. good times .

"probably has lymphoma & the others have probably contracted it from him" Uuuuhhh WHAT?! Lymphoma isn't contagious.....lmao Yikes. I hope this new vet works out!! Finding a good vet can be really difficult. I have worked with several. Part of that is due to moving, and part from going to regular vs emergency clinics - but part is from trying to find a good regular vet. I have no shame in Cherry-Picking either. e.g. for a while there was one pro-raw exotics vet who I would see if the boys seemed sick and I really wanted someone with more ferret expertise, and another I used specifically for Des bc she was the only one willing to do it without sedation (also she was less experienced in ferrets but open to learning and I absolutely loved her - she was one of my favorites. Often open-mindedness and willingness to learn and discuss is far more valuable than ferret experience). Also - you can't tag me bc my username is hurricanekatt I just have it set to Katt as my display name.

Well we've gone back to vince the vet now it's back in stock. They did eat it this time last week, but now they've had a taste of nutriment they won't touch vince!. I'm not going back 2 nutriment because it has wheat germ oil & sea Kelp in it! It's a finer grind than vince so I tried blending it, Not interested. Tried adding egg, not interested! *SIGH* ellie eats it luckily, but the boys hardly touch it. Jasper licks it a few times then runs away to stash a pretend bit of meat. He does this because he knows I'll let him go. Never a good thing when ur out smarted by a ferret. Frank does the best impression of a dying ferret if he gets any meat in his mouth, he'll lick the egg or water but as soon as he gets some meat in his mouth he runs away gagging & spits it out. I don't get it, they were eating this so well before but now they've gone back so squared one. I'm making no progress at all & its been like this for 4 days now. I'm back at work tomorrow. They've got until Thursday then we're in trouble as there'll be no1 2 feed them for 8 hours & I'm worried about jasper.
I'm going to try a tiny bit of the dogs food every day, he eats what they do but instead of Turkey he has beef, Lamb ect so I'm going to see if any of the different meats interest the boys. If Wednesday comes & we've made no progress then I'm going to have to mix kibble in, or just go back to kibble & fast them between meals like I did at the beginning. I'm off for 2 weeks again in 2 weeks time.
Very frustrated mummy atm

Sorry it's been a crazy weeken for me and I have 5 more days of cramming for my last exam and then I'll be back to being more available. What is vince? I must have missed it if you mentioned Vince before. I'm really confused as to what exactly they are and are not eating now?

Hey Katt. Vince the vet commercial raw is what I started them on. They began to eat freely from the bowl & were doing well. Unfortunately my supplier sold out last week & I had to get them Nutriment raw, it's a finer grind but had wheat germ in it, it's all the shop had at the time. They were on that for maybe 3 or 4 days? & loved it. I've now put them back on Vince the vet, chicken with lamb offal, same as before & the little tinkers hate it now

Sorry for my super late reply. Things have been a bit hectic lately between school and family. That sounds quite normal during a switch actually. Since you're still fairly fresh with starting, you can expect them to get favourites on foods. Keep pushing with the food and they will get back and adjust to it. The extra ingredients on the nutriment raw is only in trace amounts. It is unlikely to be an issue. Either way these are simply transitioning tools so that you can work your way up to the real deal. You should get some slivers of meat and try those out in between the ground mixes. ^^

As Machan said, is very normal to experience two steps forward, one step back during the switch. It can be very frustrating, but is very normal. Try finger feeding them the Vince and lowering your finger to the plate. Once they realize that they aren't getting what they want back, they will eat the Vince again. lol Do you still have any of the Nutriment around? If they are being *super* stubborn I would mix some of the Vince into the Nutriment and over a few meals reduce the Nutriment and increase the Vince. That would be much better than adding kibble back. You can add slivers like Machan suggested at any point. Let us know what you do and how it goes.

thanks guys,m last night was better. i added salmon oil (admitidly a little too much) & they ate a bit better. this morning i added a little goose fat & they ate better again. how much of the fat can i give? it was just a little dollop on top of theyre food, maybe 1/2 a teaspoon?
i might get a tub or 2 of nutriment just in case. i agree its better than kibble again.

I would minimize the fat. A little won't hurt, but it's something that needs to be used sparingly, especially if it is rendered. Raw fat, a little here and there is fine. TOo much may put the diet off and cause some funky stools.
Oil can be used sparingly as well. It should be about 1/2 tsp a week, breaking that up throughout the week is fine. ^_^

I'm sorry your week was rough. Your end goal is Frankenprey right? If so, it really doesn't matter either way which grind they are on right now, because it's not going to be their permanent diet. Have you tried the slivers like Machan suggested?

Don't worry about caving. It isn't going to be a permanent diet so no biggie. ^_^ As long as they are eating and eating well at the moment is what is important especially since you have two ferrets who really need to be on something.
