Hi everyone! I'm interested in more information on raw feeding. While I obtain enough points to apply for a mentor I though I could ask a few questions here. Ive been following a guide I found online which says to feed: Monday: Am: liver Pm: bone in Tuesday: Am: bone in Pm: muscle Wednesday: Am:heart Pm: muscle Thursday: Am: bone Pm: organ (kidney) Friday: Am: heart Pm: muscle Saturday: Am: bone Pm: muscle Sunday: Am:muscle Pm: bone I feed: Muscle: veal, beef, pork, chicken, and turkey. Bone: chicken legs/wings/neck Organs from: same as muscle I recently saw another website that said liver should only be fed a maximum of 2onze/meal or their poop can smell really bad and they can overdose. I feed both my ferrets about 3/oz per meal. So how much liver should I feed? I am also wondering how long it takes for their poop to detox? Some people say 1-3 months? :$ Is it normal/ok for ferrets to stash food in their litter boxes? Should I take it away? And finally, what can i do for eager stashers? Give them less? Take food away when their outside the cage? I found a good 3 meals worth of meat under my bed.... Thank you so much

Congrats on the raw, once again. You did well on your menu, however it is a little unbalanced to some degree. I added some notes above to help you out. It seems a little heavy on the muscle, so try adding a few more bone in meat meals instead and you will need a meal of "½ heart + ¼ liver + ¼ other organ" and a meal of "½ liver + ½ other organ." How much you feed depends on how much the ferret eats. The info on the menu can be found here: holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/basic-frankenprey-menu/You have some good proteins lined up, however you may need a few more options for the bone in meat. Veal and beef are considered the same protein. If you can get turkey as a bone in meat, or quail, those are good options. You can see more options on the link I posted above. Try doing your menu again, and list the proteins along with the type of meal they are so we can see if you're have things evenly protein wise. (Eg. Monday AM: Chicken Wings [Bone in meat] ) Detox as mentioned in the other thread, usually lasts anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks on average. Sometimes longer, sometimes less. It depends on the ferret. Yes it is completely normal for ferrets to stash their food in their litter boxes. Make sure you have a safe litter in there in case they accidentally ingest some here and there. As long as it isn't alot, there shouldn't be any concerns over blockages. The reason they stash in their litter box is to keep other animals away from their food. The polecat would do this to keep other predators away, so in a way, to mask the smell of their fresh food. If it smells unpleasant, no one will want to eat it. haha!! You can do a few things for stashers, 1# create an eating den so that they can stash their food there and eat later... 2# leave as is and they will clean up or 3# figure out how much exactly your ferrets eat and adjust food accordingly. Reducing food may not stop the stashing behaviour, allowing them to stash is fine. Just tidy up after a day. I do stash rounds daily. If it's in the cage, I leave it all day, clean up at the end of the day when I put in fresh food. When they come out to play, I take away the food so they don't stash and put it back when they go into the cage. I hope this helps you out a bit.

Hello! So I changed my menu as recommended Monday: Am: ½ liver + ½ other organ Pm: bone in Tuesday: Am: bone in Pm: muscle Wednesday: Am:heart Pm: bone Thursday: Am: bone Pm: ½ heart + ¼ liver + ¼ other organ (kidney) Friday: Am: bone Pm: bone Saturday: Am: bone Pm: muscle Sunday: Am:Bone or muscle depending on poop Pm: bone I noticed you said *at least one meal of heart* can i feed more with my muscle meat? The boys love heart! So we feed chicken liver and cow liver in rotation. Chicken, beef, and lamb kidney, again in rotation. Muscle meat we feed chicken thighs and giblets, pork chunks, beef stewing cubes, on rotation and sometimes a bit of two kinds (is that ok?) Finally, for bone in, my boys have been difficult. We started with thighs and Casper attacked it. Are the whole thing. But now they kind of eat around the bone and sometimes a bit. I'm worried they aren't getting enough bone. We tried adding a bit of ground egg shells on the meat and that seemed to help a bit. So for the moment we only feed them chicken thighs/legs and chicken backs. We want to add chicken necks and wings but for the moment we can't get a quote on the necks (butchers keep telling me to call back) and wings are crazy expensive in Montreal. Like a minimum of 12.99/kg So I'd love suggestions for other bone meals I can feed we also live. Ear China Town and Asian groceries. Thank you again everyone! I'll try and post pictures once I have my computer not sure how to do it with cellphone. -Marid

Thighs can be a more difficult bone to eat for some ferrets. You could smash up some of the bone in the bone-in meals and see if they will eat the bone in the now smaller pieces, sometimes the full thing overwhelms some of them a little for a while. This thread can help: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/18359/smashing-bone-beginner-ferretsYou can do some duck and turkey bone-in, or since you're near Asian stores, you could try frogs legs, rabbit and quail. I've yet to try the frogs legs on my own, but I've read that some love them like crazy, but some are kinda neutral. My two love rabbit and duck, like insanely love them, they'll chew on you if you don't put the plate down fast enough.
