Woot! (dance) Super exciting!! I forgot to ask if you have any eggshells? If not perhaps omelets for the grandkiddos are in order! Just rinse and dry some eggshells and blend them into a nice powder. You can order bonemeal powder also, but eggshels work fine since the goal isn't to stay on soup long-term. The soup recipe is: 1oz heart 1oz liver 8oz muscle meal (chicken thigh or breast - remove the skin or it will kill your blender haha You can try tossing them the skin pieces and see what they think if you got skin-on meats) 1/2-3/4tsp eggshell or bonemeal powder Blend (or have hubby blend haha) the above ingredients up with some water to make a nice pudding consistency. Then sit on the floor with the fuzzards and put one in your lap. Gently dab some of the soup onto their nose/lips (so they have to lick it off and taste it), and set them down. Do this repeatedly. Sit in a room with them as they play and Grab n' Dab them whenever they run by. Do this as many times a day as you can until they start to lick the soupie willingly from your (or Patrick's) finger. It helps to make sure to remove their kibble 2-3 hours before your soupie sessions. Definitely once they start licking the soup more you will want to remove kibble a few hours before giving any raw due to the potential risk for upset tummies and bacterial overgrowth with mixing the two.

Perfect. We have five chickens and go through eggs really fast. Eggshells are super easy. I can pick up their food at noon because they sleep most of the afternoon. Then bring them down for play time. We'll try tomorrow afternoon!

Will the chicken breast or thigh have bones and if so are there blenders that are better for grinding bones?

Will the chicken breast or thigh have bones and if so are there blenders that are better for grinding bones? Nope. For the soup you'll want to get boneless, skinless meat (thigh or breasts). Easier to blend if you dice them up a little before blending (also helps with weighing). Once we have them eating soup, we will introduce slivers, then chunks, and finally as they build up their jaw stength -bones. A cheap Ulu is your best friend where chopping bones is concerned! I get mine from the souvenir section at Freddie's.

I forgot to warn you that shaking of heads, spitting, gagging, and generally acting as if you are trying to poison them is VERY NORMAL the first few times. It gets better - I promise!!

Well here's what happened on Athos' first day of soup. D'Artagnan ate some too but he had a terrible problem with his toys and was very focused on relocation efforts. Somehow the toys seemed to end up in the same place they started but D'Artagnan was satisfied and that's really all that matters.
