Aftershock The only times I've caved and given some colder foods, yes semi-thawed to barely thawed were times when I was taking out some NV Instinct grinds the ferrets liked, and rabbit and such being a favorite flavor of theirs, I had to just give them the bowl for the safety of my toes. Rabbit and duck meats, grinds and FDR are their favorite choices, which they will toe-chew you if you don't hand it over fast enough. I praise the crap out of Hades whenever he does something good like that... my husband praises more than me though, always going on about what a good boy he is (even though my husband is the one that cleans all the pukes, lol). I'll try that too and see if it might help, who knows, maybe his ego will like it. And no, no, you're definitely not coming off as pushy, hearing about other people's experiences and getting advice on things is what I love about this forum and why I joined in the first place. ^^

Linda, this is just too funny. Have you tried cooking meat and then making a gravy-like thing by adding water to make it like the canned food? That has to be better without all the preservatives in the canned food. As for spring water, do you have Chippewa Valley water near you? It's from here in WI, but not sure if they sell it in other states.

Nah, not here in Utah, I haven't seen any of it in any stores at least and I've seen so many brands. Maybe I'll resort to ordering online. Is it good?
As for cooking the food, none of my animals ever get any cooked food, mostly because of the ferrets, not for lack of trying when it comes to the cat though. I've tried offering him some cooked meat before. But he doesn't see it as food, he actually recoils from it. It's just a chunkie of chicken for goodness sake, he's such a drama queen when it comes to food.
He was very adventurous one day (to my utmost horror) and stole a chunk of my lemon pound cake slice and ate it before I could stop him. Insane animal, to this day we keep any lemon cake well sealed in a container or slices eaten entirely before putting the plate down.

Linda they only deliver in Wisconsin and Illinois. How far are you from Salt Lake City? They have the Artesian Well there.

Orem to SLC is about a 40 minute drive, it's not bad, we often make a trip into SLC and the surrounding towns.

^-^ I'd definitely try what Sherry suggested then. Getting him used to limited feeding times and the smell of raw should help immensely. I do not suggest cooked meat at all. It can cause more harm than good. if I remember correctly, the cooked fats can cause pancreatitis? Then there's the issue of degradated nutrients and with how picky cats are anyway, trying to get them used to meat that way is likely to backfire and result in him only wanting cooked meats and completely rejecting raw. I'm kinda glad he recoils from cooked.

@ferretlove1987 No, not yet, I didn't even know of it, but apparently my husband does. So I think we'll definitely be checking that out when we can. Aftershock I'm pretty glad he doesn't go for the cooked too. In all honesty, it's just easier, I can leave my food out on the counters without needing to worry about the cat getting on there. It has actually helped in him never jumping on the kitchen counters at all (he jumps the bathroom counters though), as in his mind there is never anything interesting up there for him. And since cooked food doesn't have the nutritional value of raw, I would never be giving him that as food, but it has crossed my mind to try and use it as a food lure, though of course as stated, that didn't work out at all, lol. I'm gonna try what Sherry suggested, and I think I'm also gonna try wetting some FDR treats to see if maybe he'll give them a go, same as we did for my ferrets. He does eat some FDR treats as is, but obviously it needs the water so it can aid against dehydration when given as food. So dunno, maybe he'll try it, maybe I'm just full of wishful thinking.

While ferretlove is right about making homecooked meals for kitty not having all the chemicals, neither do they have all the supplements replaced that are essential either. And Linda- my one cat used to vomit twice a week as well. Once we got him off kibble entirely he stopped. Period. However I will say one thing- I could never get that one on to raw. He had far too many sensitivities to different raw proteins. If he couldn't tolerate something he would projectile vomit immediately, and vomit anything he ate the rest of the day. He had to have a day fast to settle his stomach. And was frankly too old to worry about trialing to find him some of the few he could eat. That one stayed on Wellness Core canned til he passed at 22. This was my favourite pic of him at age 20 years And just for the h*ll of it, here was the wee shite who took 3 years to switch lol

They are both lovely animals Sherry. And even with sensitivities and troubles he still made it to 22 years of age? Wow, that really is commendable. He must have had a very happy life with you guys. It's so nice to hear all these stories. I'd be happy if I could even get Hades to switch onto the better canned brands like NV Instinct, or Wellness Core, I actually do have a couple Wellness cans in my pantry that I have been trying to get Mr. Dumbass to eat because it's better than things like Friskies or any of the other grocery store brands. He has an on and off acceptance of the NV Instinct and Wellness Core pouches (one day he'll eat some, next time the bowl just retains all of it until it dries out, even if he previously scarfed down the same flavor), but he's really kicking his heels in when it comes to the cans. Since I know he hates pates with a passion, I ended up buying the Wellness cans with shreds or little chunkies, but he's still pulling his nose up when I try to offer some.

Have you tried using a lure? The better quality in the dish, with about a tbsp of the cheap one broken up over the top worked well with mine. Then you very slowly decrease the lure over a month or so.

Not sure how well that will work with him Sherry, he's a real snot. We had a bit of a late dinner last night. So last night around when I was cooking, I ended up giving him one of the small tins of Wellness Signature Selects (Flaked skipjack tuna with wild salmon flavor) and he ate half of it, and then about 15 minutes later came back and polished off the bowl (I was quite impressed by this). When I gave the ferrets their food a mere 30 minutes later, Hades being in the habit of when the ferrets get their meal from me, he should too, went on a rampage about how he wanted food too even though he had a tin not long ago. He was throwing such a tantrum about it too... kept loudly meowing, and even sat in the kitchen and started chewing the corner of a grocery bag that contained a bag of potato chips that and was hanging from the handles of a drawer. The more I said not to chew, the more he chewed on the corner in defiance, so I took it away and got rewarded with more constant meowing and getting followed around. So I gave in, I added some NV Instinct Duck to his bowl, mushed it with a spoon, and of course he didn't want that, and yelled at me over it. So I added some Wellness Signature Selects (Chicken and beef flavor) on top, needless to say he went over and gave it a lick, and then looked at me like I'm a monster and went to the bedroom with my husband. The bowl is still untouched this afternoon. It's like he believes any food he doesn't like that touches food he likes, makes it poisonous and he can't eat any of it.

Oh, that I do. I tell my husband the same every single day. And he does it too actually. We frequently admit it.
Hades was our little adoption kitten at 9 weeks old. He was all mellow and quiet and shy when we picked him. Took him home... and he stopped acting. Complete opposite I tell you.
He's still human shy though, or just cowardly. He sees another human enter the house and he'll hide in the bathroom the entire visit and once he thinks the coast is clear he will belly crawl out, or walk normal in the front, and with his butt and hind legs scraping the floor, lol. Other than that, he's very arrogant and full of nonsense.

Sherry OMG, hah, I got Hades eating some PureBites Wet Food... can't say my wallet is going to enjoy this... but he's eating it, he's actually eating it and not throwing it up. He still yells at me... a lot, and all the time, like this morning he was yelling at me and my husband when I came to bed at 5am, but his bowl was cleaned out this morning, and he got another for breakfast, which he ate half of. We also bought a drinking fountain on Monday, so that Hades would be more inclined to drink, and not need us to go open a tap all the time. So far it's been working out really well, and the ferrets enjoy drinking from it too. Athena has snorkeled in it a bit and tried to figure out what is making the noise and how it works, but it's all been good so far. We are keeping an eye though.
