I may have found a source fore beef and lamb kidney!!. I will have to make sure it is in stock. There is a store that sells a 10 pound case of turkey necks, cash and carry, will they be eating that often to make since to get freezer space is no problem.

That sounds like a great deal Make sure you spread out the protein variety as equally as possible. Try not to rely heavily on one specific animal. How often do you feed your ferrets eggs? Shedding season is coming up, and eggs are very good for helping them pass any fur they accidentally ingest. You can feed up to two eggs per ferret per week You can feed whole eggs, or egg yolks on their own. Avoid feeding just egg whites on their own.

They just finished eating a cornish game hen this morning. They seem to be doing a great job of eating most of the bones. I will be "tossing" their beds and hidy holes to make sure they are not just stocking up for later. I am going to chop up some pork chop tonight and try to slip it into their chicken thighs. Jezzy is still lagging behind. She will chomp on the chunks a little bit, but give up fairly fast. I gave her some slivers with some heart in a kennel by her self today, and will see about hand feeding her tonight, she is not as in love with the personal attention of hand feeding. (I don't think she got handled much by previous owner, she is very playful and nippy, but never breaks the skin.) She loves the chicken skin so I have bee trying to leave bits of meat stuck to the skin to get her to eat it, so far so good, just worry that she is not getting enough to eat. I will re weigh everyone tonight. I have never really had problems with hair balls with my ferrets, but that may change since they all have a much thicker coat with the new diet. Maybe we will feed two whole eggs whipped a week?

I did not get the weights. But I did get Jezzy to eat the slivers!!! I gave the group a bowl full of hearts and they looked at me like I forgot to put food in their bowl. I don't think they will have a problem eating it once they have thawed. I kenneled Jezzy separate to make sure she got to eat her slivers. She went straight in and started eating!!

Jezzy is doing this on her own schedule They might not finish ALL of the bone, as long as they are chewing and ingesting some of it you should be fine. They always like to leave a skeletal mess when they're done. Excellent idea about checking the hiding places for stash piles. With 4 ferrets you can safely give them an egg every day during shedding seasons, and every other day during the rest of the year, but you can do it a bit less as well As long as they're all eating it together, and you don't have the one porker gobbling it up before everyone else it helps to put it on a big flat plate so everyone can reach. You're doing very well with this switch. While we wait for Jezzy to catch up, I'm going to post you a little quiz to see how you're doing with background knowledge

Last night for dinner I gave them an egg on chicken chunks with pork pieces slipped in. Someone ate the pork!! 2/3 of the meat was gone this morning so I rounded it out with some chicken back.
Jezzy is in the other kennel, and we are trying a bit larger pieces.

I left everyone together today and put some meaty chicken back in their kennel. I will do a half and half chicken and pork tonight for dinner and remove any left over food from their kennel. I will call the market and make sure they have the kidney and go get it this weekend. When I get into heart and organ meals is it crucual to make sure they get a minimum amount, like should I weigh it or just make sure there is enough for everyone to eat?

Good job on the pork! And yes it is crucial that everyone gets a certain amount of heart, and organ meals. How we recommend doing it is giving a full meal of heart, a full meal of organs all mixed up. Or blending those meals into a soup. So you don't have one guy who loves eating heart, finish the hearts off then no one else gets enough. Or if someone is picky about liver; if it's all mixed up together, or there is nothing else to choose from then they can't avoid it. When you purchase all the meats you need. I am going to ask you to write out a weekly menu for them in this format: Monday am: edible bone in meat Monday pm: edible bone in meat (or muscle) Tuesday am: edible bone in meat Tuesday pm: muscle meat Wednesday am: edible bone in meat Wednesday pm: heart Thursday am: edible bone in meat Thursday pm: edible bone in meat (or muscle) Friday am: edible bone in meat Friday pm: ½ heart + ¼ liver + ¼ other organ Saturday am: edible bone in meat Saturday pm: muscle meat Sunday am: edible bone in meat Sunday pm: ½ liver + ½ other organ You can switch up which meals go on which days to better suit you. Remember to schedule a bone meal after an organ or heart one. Bone meals will firm up their stools, while heart and especially organ meals provide looser stools. So you don't want to be putting two organ meals close together. We can take a look at and adjust anything then And the quiz is a bit of an overstatement, it's more for me to see what I should go into in more detail.

Answer the questions that you can and if you aren't sure, no worries 1. What is the main important nutrient found in heart? 2. Is heart a muscle meat or an organ? 3. Can a ferret have too much liver? 4. Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats? 5. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone?

This is a preliminary meal plan. I view the chicken as interchangeable with turkey and Cornish game hen. Please let me know thoughts.
Monday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken back) Monday pm: edible bone in meat (or muscle) (Pork chops)
Tuesday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken neck) Tuesday pm: muscle meat (Beef chunks (probably stew meat if they will eat it))
Wednesday am: edible bone in meat (sourcing quale) Wednesday pm: heart (Should I rotate different animal hearts?)
Thursday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken Wings) Thursday pm: edible bone in meat (or muscle)(Pork shoulder)
Friday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken legs and thighs crushed bones) Friday pm: ½ heart + ¼ liver + ¼ other organ (heart, liver, kidney of lamb or beef)
Saturday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken back) Saturday pm: muscle meat (Beef)
Sunday am: edible bone in meat (Chicken neck) Sunday pm: ½ liver + ½ other organ (liver, kidney of lamb or beef)
