Natural Diet Shopping List Help

So I am preparing and getting all the things needed before applying for a Mentor I stumbled across this page while searching for a specific shopping list sites.google.com/site/holisticferret/random-natural-feeding-terminology/how-to-switch-your-ferret-to-a-natural-diet

but what are some things specifically needed? I know gram scale/soup items ect.. but I am new to this and need just a bit of help

which I have raw boneless chicken breast already Ferretone I am missing a Feeding syringe and gram scale.. which I found one on amazon but wanted to first see if this was ok to buy before purchasing.. I have seen you guys go through a soup stage to... so would the chicken breasts I have be alright for this? (I am still missing a couple things for that to)

now I am thinking I will be going the frankenprey route as it seems that will be the easiest thing for me to obtain for Merlin.. I understand needing liver/heart ect but i seen someone talk about Taurine powder... so I went to my favorite place to shop.. Amazon.... I did find one but it was for cats and dogs... Honestly, all you need are heart, liver, meat, eggshell powder or human grade bone meal for the soup. A blender or processor of some sort to blend the puree. I use a really cheap magic bullet  A scale to weigh both your ferret, and their food. And with that you are set
Start a transition thread in Diet Transitions here so we can all pop in to give you a hand while waiting on a mentor(if you choose to go that route).
As for taurine powder you only need it if you are having trouble accessing hearts.

ok so I need to see if I can't get heart/liver from walmart or meijers... now does this need to be fresh? if so how long can that keep for? or if i can find it frozen is that alright? and or freeze any extra so i have it on hand always.

I actually have a baby magic bullet i was thinking about selling haha! looks like I will be keeping it around after all as for scale will that scale work that I linked above?

I also found i think it is the right kinda of bone meal.. correct me if i am wrong please

alright! I will start that thread once I got all my items in order. I planned on going out and doing some shopping today.. but I got a sick kid poor thing. I still might be able to talk the hubby into either letting me sneak out for a few or maybe he will go with my shopping list lol even though I much prefer picking it out myself

I buy in bulk where possible, thaw, portion, and refreeze So yes frozen is just fine.
And yes, that bonemeal powder is fine for a soup. Same proportions as the eggshell, 1/2 tsp per 8 oz meat.
The baby bullet will be perfect!

Oh awesome I can't thank you enough! Looks like all I am needing is the scale and a couple other essentials I want to try the soup out on him tonight or would it be best tomorrow? I may go for the egg shells until I get the bone meal in on Tuesday

I am curious.. I seen your "Thaw, portion, Refreeze" its possible to make all his soupy meals up into their own personal ziplock bags dated ect and thaw when need? and or overnight to prepare for his meals the next day?

That shouldn't be a problem! When I went through my soupie stage I froze it in ice cube trays so I could pop them out and throw them on a plate to thaw. Then I got lazy and just started freezing it in tupperware containers and sawing off a chunk of frozen soup to thaw hahah.
As for Salmon oil, I personally use the grizzly brand, some use yummy chummys, but really any kind they carry in the dog or cat section of your local pet store should be fine I would think. 1 tsp per ferret per week, you can spread it out between meals and nail clippings as you please.
Ps. ferretone is full of sugars, I would suggest replacing it as your treat with the salmon oil

ohhh you know what! I think i have an ice cube tray floating around here that is not being used wonderful idea

so i looked on amazon and found both brands I will be ditching the ferretone >< so frustrating to find that out after buying but hey better now then later right. I bought it online so i didn't see what kind of ingredients were listed in it Thank you so much <3

I did the exact same thing, bought two bottles and had to throw one and half away after i learned it was bad for them. le sigh, if only they weren't allowed to sell stuff thats bad for them labeled as ferret items!

so I got the hearts/livers.. is gizzards ok? also until i get my bone meal.. to make the powdered egg shell does the shell need to dry?

would have made up his first batch but hubby forgot the scale so he is getting it tomorrow

Yes gizzards Are a great muscle meat and good for cleaning teeth and building up jaw strength! Just don't put them in your blender under any circumstance!!!! They will break it. I was told to let my egg shells dry for 24 hrs then crush them up into as tiny of pieces as you can.
Do you have an Asian market or local meat market/butcher shop in your area? They're very helpful for the heart and other organs, you'll be buying so many gizzards if you buy the mix consistently you won't know what to do with them lol.

Oh ps in response to you first post, chicken breast is totally fine but fattier meats like thigh are better in the long run for them
