Shoot a message to Lorelei. I believe she said she has some breeder friends as well. However- unless you are willing to take an older one, breeding season is going to be the same.

Hmmph. I think I could take an older one nearer 6+ months. The only problem is that I can't really start until next month, given how late I am for finding properties.

If you really want a fuzz, put your name in with her. She's starting to post her newest line up for possible breeders for next year. You can take a look at her lines, see what you might be interested in. Fill out an application. Heather is very approachable and friendly. She might have something to place now, but if you've got your heart set on a kit, it's well worth the wait unless you want to go to a shelter and get an older kit. There are a couple of places that have had young, and very young ferrets turned in. ciao

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of breeders in Ontario or Quebec (or close-ish)?

None. Or at least none who aren't unethical BYB. Canada has no ethical breeders as of yet.

That's unfortunate... Do you know which American breeder is closer to the Quebec border? Actually, some of these breeders are willing to ship out kits, correct?

Shipping across the border has it's own problems. Talk to Heather- she could give you more UTD info.

Did anyone had an experience shipping ferrets from Europe without traveling with them?

Hi can I just add a note here a lot of the regulations on export/import have changed check out with your local government web page for details when transporting over a lot of paperwork has to be applied for and checked by both countries for example rabies and distemper vaccines used in the uk are not recognized by USA or Canadian vets so a ferret will have to be re vaccinated on landing and then go into a 6 week quarantine each country has different guidelines for example two years a go ferrets could travel in varipet plastic cages not now now special crates must be made to accommodate each animal (they ask for weight height length and its made to measure ) its also lined with wire! you are not allowed to give your animals any food to travel with now only water in a bottle which travels outside the box even the paper they have to lie on is supplied by the maker of the boxes ! ( hard white shredded paper)so if you plan on importing check and double check as it can be a complicated and expensive business take care bye for now Bev

Canada and the US have waved the 6 week quarantine regarding the rabies on the importation of ferrets from the UK. If importing into the US you can bring in a ferret but must vaccinate for rabies within 6 weeks of arrival (distemper is optional). You "cannot" directly import a ferret from any overseas country into Canada. You can import a ferret from the US though. They must have an up to date rabies with proof. They have waved the 6 week hold and you can import from the US within days of the vaccine being given as long as the rabies is the emrab3 (specific rabies for ferrets). As far as importation without accompaniment of a ferret into the US, the prerequisites are quite easily met. ciao

I recomend Scarlet's Happy Dookers. That's were I got Thor. She does not ship. Also you need to have an adoption application approved. She was very good to me when I got Thor. I wanted a black self European baby. Specifically I wanted the Black Pearl for the mother. Thor is from her last litter. 2 girls, 2 boys, 1 sable and one black. Pearl did good for me. She is now retired. I had the pleasure of meeting her, what a great little ferret, personality plus. I feel in love with her. Thor was already eating mice and chicks (Kibble too) when I got him. He was easy to convert to raw.

Thanks everyone! My plan is to go to Midwest Ferret Fellowship Faire on September 14th, and get a kit there. Of course, I don't know yet this will be possible. I'm aware about ferret import regulations and I know that it is impossible to directly import a ferret to Canada form UK. However, I could pick the ferret up in Seattle and drive into Canada. There is no quarantine requirements, only rabies is required if ferret is over 3 month old. I ended up contacting Pam (PVO) and Heather (Devon Country Ferrets). I haven't heard from Pam for a while. I know she was probably very busy with Buckeye Bash. I also didn't get a reply from Heather. I'm not really in a mad rush to get a ferret. The issue though, is one of my ferrets unfortunately passed away 3 weeks ago (from very aggressive undetermined cause, but probably lymphoma) and my only ferret is lonely. So if any of you have some suggestions for me, I would be very grateful I'm new into breeder ferrets, but I really don't want to get one of the Marshals again. My ferret, who passed away, was rescue Marshals and my only ferret Jeepers (on my avatar) is also Marshals but I had him since he was a kit. I have also fostered ferrets in the past and I have never seen a nice, true and destructive ferret personality in Marshalls. My Jeepers is an exception. He was very nippy as a kit. I thought I would need stitches when he bit me for the first time. He is also very clever and his destructive forces are truly unmatched Of course he is pretty small being Marshals, although super muscular, but his teeth are bad (makes me think genetics). For this reason, I would love to get a similar ferret from a breeder, but not early castrated and better genetics. I would also LOVE to feed raw. It's nearly impossible with Jeepers as he is super imprinted to kibble. I can only feed him freeze dried and raw egg. Although, I started working on adding tiny amount of meat in his reconstituted freeze dried. I promise to share pics !

It would be nice to feed raw. I struggle currently with my Jeepers.

I also talked to air-carriers. It is not quite as bad as you describe. I'm also planing to get the ferret shipped to USA (if from Europe) and I'll drive from there. It is expensive, but getting a healthy and happy ferret is very important to me. I don't have many options here in Canada.
