We decided not to do the barium since she started eating and pooping again. He said he's narrowed it down to two things, one being a bad case of IBD which is common in ferrets. Right now they are on two chicken based protein kibbles, so I'll be changing their diet to a turkey based protein soon... The vet said that it's best to try odd protein sources, like quail or rabbit. She did poo after she came out the vets office, so that must've been what was in her tummy. She finished the treatment for c. dif, not a huge improvement but better than it was before. The vet said it could also be a different infection that needs three course treatment... I'll try changing the kibble first.

An update on how she's doing; She seems to be feeling fine and she hasn't vomited any time since then (thank god) but her poops still aren't.. satisfactory? I'm switching her to a duck and turkey diet soon. I personally think it's IBS from symptoms. She's doing much better though! I'll let you guys know if that works.

Update: After the cdiff treatment nothing changed. I noticed that she fluctuated between healthy poops and small poops. She's also had episodic vomiting over the course of a year (not a blockage) I'm wondering if this could be insulnomia? She's young (2 years?) but I rescued her from a very dirty, very awful "petstore" where she had earmites, bacterial infections, etc. I have no idea what they would feed her there but I don't want to know...

You can always get her tested for insulinoma, have your vet run a Blood Glucose test. It doesn't hurt to try it after all, at least an answer will either steer you in the right direction or give you peace of mind. Insulinoma tends to show up a bit later in life, but we've seen some cases where it happens pretty young in a ferret that may have a genetic disposition to it.

I'll ask him to when she goes back to get her des implant. Adrenal diagnosed when she was 1 ): So I don't think her genetics are super great unfortunately Does the blood glucose always stay out of the normal range for an insulinoma ferret or does it fluctuate?

For ferrets with insulinoma, I believe it's usually always somewhere below normal. When the vet is diagnosing, there's usually three ranges, normal, borderline insulinoma and definitely insulinoma. Borderline insulinoma which I think ranges 70-90, at around 80-90 I think it can be just diet managed. And definitely diagnosed as having insulinoma on a range of anything below 70, at that stage it needs to be managed by medicine for sure.
