I am starting Negan's transition myself until I get a mentor. Negan is around 2 years old Current weight: 2.6 lbs (1179.32 g) Tonight I finally made the raw soup! I used the exact recipe from the forum with eggshell powder. Before giving it to him, I added some hot water to make the soup warm since I figured that would make him more willing to try it. He was not very interested, so I scruffed him and put some on his mouth for him to taste. After a few tastes he seemed to like it! After that, he ate spoonful after spoonful. I tried my best to measure how much this was and I believe he ate a total of between 1 and 1.5 ounces. I didn't expect him to eat so much on his first try! He even chewed up a few tiny chunks here and there. I am so excited to try again in the morning! Also: could someone remind me how much a male ferret should be eating a day of raw food? I can't find the thread I originally got that information from

I would feed until some is left over in plate. Continue to put chunks in it. My Phoebe would lick all the soupie and go around the slivers(not chunks) (headwall) I decided to just lightly daub the slivers with soupie and that worked. Here is Heather's post to someone. Hobs/gibbs generally eat 3 to 7 oz per day. These of course are averages ciao Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/21444/oz-meal#ixzz4Qw7JRZ73

Oh that is excellent :boing: I get the feeling he is going to come along pretty quickly! And for now feed him however much he is willing to eat, and try to spoon another bite or two into him after If you are getting 3 oz or so a day into him, you can try leaving the kibble out entirely Now keep trying to eat it himself from a dish. You may have to start by holding him and dish and spoon feeding while lowering spoon to dish and slightly away, or he may take right to it.

I can't find the thread I originally got that information from Next morning, and it also happens to be Thanksgiving. I separated the now frozen cubes into baggies and thawed out a portion for him; the leftovers from last night and two cubes (roughly 5.5-6oz). I had to spoon feed and hold him initially, so I slowly let him go and then slowly lowered the spoon. He ate directly from the dish for a few minutes by himself! He also ate even more chunks this morning, some of which he ate when he was eating by himself. I weighed what was left after I couldn't get him to eat anymore, it was exactly 4oz. So from that I am estimating he ate between 1.5-2oz! More than last night. I already noticed a difference in his poop this morning, theres A LOT less of it and it is much firmer and darker. He seems very happy with the transition, after he ate he walked around while rubbing his face into the carpet- so cute. I'm hoping tonight he will continue to eat more so I can leave the kibble out

Yesterday was our best day so far, Negan ate a total of 6.8 oz of soup for the whole day. So excited about that! He's pooping SO much less it's crazy. Today has been a bit more difficult, he hasn't been very hungry today, only eating .3 oz this morning. I'm assuming it's because he's getting acclimated to his new diet and might not need to eat as often. I have a batch ready to try again once he wakes up though Also, I tried to get him to eat a raw egg and he was not having it! I'll probably try quail eggs instead soon.

WOooo!! Sounds like a fantastic start to a transition. After they get used to the diet, they may eat less. CHanges in appetite also change according to the season and other factors such as weather and/or stress. I look forward to hearing how the Quail eggs go!!

Today was another very successful day, I have to say this hardly feels like a transition because of how well Negan is responding. It's making it very easy on me! He ate 7.1 oz total of the soup today! He loves it, he is now eating on his own in his cage and he eats the whole bowl, including lots of chunks! His poops are very dark now, almost black- not sure what that means but I know there's a thread to get that info from so I will jump on there after this. He is also peeing SO often now, I add water to the soup (am going to switch to home made chicken broth soon but I am waiting for my mom to teach me her ways!) so I'm assuming that's why. I feel like I can start transitioning to the next step since he is doing so well, just not exactly sure where to go from here. He sure does love his soup though I'm going to include an updated weight in my next post since he's fast asleep now.

@savannah any update on Negan? He sounds like he is doing well have you started doing chunks with him? If not you can make pinky nail size chunks and pop one into his mouth and see what he does
