I would love some help to make sure and double check that what I am feeding my little stinker is still balanced. I have posted a few times on facebook so if this sounds familiar to some that is why.
Basically a short version of what has happened with my ferret, Stitch is that he doesn’t seem to be able to or doesn’t want to really chew up large pieces with bone and therefore has just become lazy with everything else. Started as a not being able to or it would result in vomiting/regurgitation every time and progressed into not wanting to.
Now I have been blending up all of his meals in to a chunky soup and bagging them with four different labels for each week. I have measured them out assuming he eats an approx. 2oz every 12 hours (what he did when he was on the regular menu)
There’s a bag which contains what he would have been fed Monday-Wednesday which I call Organ mix. It contains the organs (3oz) and half a meal of heart (1oz) and 6oz of bone in meat.
Then there’s a bag of 2oz of chicken hearts as he will still eat those and it gives me something to leave if I am not home for an extended period of time.
The other bag is the bone in meal bag which is 10 oz of bone in meals and the last back is a mixture of muscle meats that is 6oz.
(I split the bags in half for the week so it doesn’t get gross on day 5-7)
His bone meal consists of chicken back and quail
His organ mix at this moment consists of chicken/beef liver, chicken/beef heart. There is usually kidney in there instead of so much liver but the last time I made food they were out of kidney so I bought spleen. I have no idea if there was something wrong with it or if he just wasn’t a fan but I ended up having to get rid of enough of the premade mix to last me into the new year so I wanted to make something small in the meantime that he would eat and I wouldn’t have to throw out.
His muscle meat mix consists of duck, turkey, beef, pork and rabbit (honestly may be missing something as it has been months since I had to prep this lol)
I feed him approx. every 4 hours, if I go to work for 8 hours I can leave a larger amount of the muscle meat because he loves that and will eat it even if it gets dried out a bit. Lately I have been trying to keep track of how many small meals he is eating of each to make sure its balanced (I have no idea if I am over thinking this if I’ve measured everything correctly to begin with but I am losing it trying to make sure this is right)
I am fine if I can never get him back onto his old menu with the large pieces but I am just super paranoid about not having this balanced and my brain has been so fried that my math is just not working any longer.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you
