I checked the chart out and read up on the wysong products. Their website does not mention it, but on the second chart, it states that wysong ferret epigen 90 is not suitable for the main diet of the ferret. It doesn't have enough protein!! I am considering switching to raw, but there is so so much information to read I am a bit overwhelmed. I also live in a very rural area so items may be difficult to find for my fuzzies!

The forum recommends at least three sources of proteins for ferrets, so ferrents who offer the Wysong will usually mix it with Orijen or another kibble. There is alot of reading to do, but the basic menu plans and nutritional requirements are pretty simple to learn. You can sign up for a mentor, who will walk you thru each step and keep a close eye on you and the little ones, as you go along. As far as finding items (I also live in a very rural area), the only thing that alot of people find hard to get, is chicken hearts. I called alot of butchers, before I found some in nearby Nashville. Everything else can be found in a grocery store, chicken wings, thighs, gizzards, turkey, cornish hen, pork etc... Good Luck, and whether you choose to go raw or stay with kibble, the HFF is a great place for ferrents.

Thank you so much! I am interested in signing up for the mentor program but I have to get the stuff and reach the minimum postings! I am working to get there! I have had two ferrets that have passed away because of blood sugar issues...and it breaks my heart reading some of the information about it, I feel responsible : ( They lived to the typical 6 year mark that most of the vets have told me they max out at for lifespan, but I feel like I could have done more.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened to my Ponce. I didn't find the forum until he was very sick. Too many treats and bad kibble. The first thing I did, after I found the forum, was to buy the Wysong Epigen 90 and Orijen. Then I introduced my new little Mika to raw, and Roamy and Juliet took to it also. I use alot of Freeze Dried Fresh and offer raw also. The reading seems a little bit overwhelming at first, but very quickly, you see how easy it is to offer raw. And as for posts, just saying Hi and responding to interesting posts, gets you there quickly.

Thanks for the tip! : ) I am so sorry to hear you have also had a similar experience...it was very sad. I still feel sad about it even now. I have been researching the Wysong products and also the EVO products. Right now I am using the Zupreem diet which up until this site, I thought was good for them...I'm definitely interested in switching. Just have to do my homework.

Actually Fuzzyferrets... When that chart talks about which Wysong is not suitable for a main diet... it is referring to the plain and regular Epigen 90 kibble, and not the FERRET Epigen 90. There are 3 different Wysong Epigen kibbles listed on that Chart. The first is on the top of the list, and is the FERRET Epigen 90 which is currently rated as the best ferret kibble on the market by that website. Just below it on that Chart, are two other Epigen's listed but they're also specified as "recommended as mixer only". Here are their direct links to their description pages on these 3 foods... Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 - moredooks.herobo.com/food.php?food=Wysong%20Ferret%20Epigen%2090Wysong Epigen 90 - moredooks.herobo.com/food.php?food=Wysong%20Epigen%2090%20[RECOMMENDED%20AS%20MIXER%20ONLY]Wysong Epigen - moredooks.herobo.com/food.php?food=Wysong%20Epigen%20[RECOMMENDED%20AS%20MIXER%20ONLY]I feed mine the Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 as their primary diet, and they absolutely love it, can't get enough of it, and it has resulted in them having a much softer and fluffier coat of fur, and a LOT more energy during play time! I am also looking into mixing it with other things, at present I am working on getting them interested in Orijen mixed with the Wysong; and at some point in the future I would like to try to get them to accept various raw meats... Oh one last thing Fuzzyferrets! For those difficult to find items, hopefully uou know about the online ferret supply retailers? www.ferret.com www.petsupplies.com/ferret-supplies/9131/www.ferretdepot.comwww.drsfostersmith.com/ferret/pr/c/17342I found Wysong on ferret.com and petsupplies.com... and I also found the Orijen on petsupplies.com as well as from a local retailer.

Orijen is something I have heard of, but can not seem to find. I will keep checking! : ) Orijen Cat & Kitten www.petsupplies.com/item/orijen-cat-and-kitten-dry-food/405242/This is the one a lot here recommend, though I am a little surprised they only have the one 15 lb bag size available. I think I bought the 5 lb bag from a local pet food retailer for $20! Just a small bag like that could last you months, depending on the number of fuzzies being fed, and last even longer when mixed with other kibbles... They also gave me a pair of 2 pound "sample" bags for free! I still haven't opened the big bag yet. As for finding it locally, the Orijen website -- www.orijen.ca/ -- does have a "where to buy" link up in the corner of the webpage. I used that, with my zip code, and found a few stores and drive out to talk to them, most had stopped carrying it, but then I started looking up other local retailers who were not listed, and found one very nearby who does sell it, so thats where I bought my first bag! Also, you could try some of these places that have the other sized bags available... www.chewy.com/cat/orijen-cat-kitten-grain-free-dry-cat/dp/29728www.petfooddirect.com/Product/8810/Orijen-Adult-Cat-And-Kitten-Formula-Dry-FoodHope your fuzzies enjoy it!
