Yeah it's hard to get used to. Today is liver and heart and I've finally gotten used to touching it all. Sometimes just scruffing them and holding their face near the bowl can help.

They are asleep at the moment, but I'll see what they do when they wake up. I don't mind the heart, it just looks like meat to me. The liver is all squishy and jello feeling... bleh.

Someone ate half the liver, I'm not sure whom cause I went to bed when they woke up. I'm waiting again for them to wake up and see if they try it again. I'm betting it was Jude, but Zoey might surprise me.

See if you can catch someone pooping. Liver poops are dark in color. Maybe you can add some water to the liver and mush it until it's less chunky? Then spoon feed?

Jude went back this morning for some more liver, he seems to like it. Zoey and Jude both went potty this morning, they both were dark, so I'm going to go on a limb and say they both ate it. Jude's was firmer, maybe cause he's eating the squash, Zoey is still only getting a taste of squash, she's not too fond of it yet.

That's great news! Eating liver is a huge accomplishment. Expect icky poops on liver and heart days Soo, do you want to write up a weekly menu to see where you're at? Like this: Monday- chicken thigh AM and Pm Thursday - pork chop AM wings PM

Alright let me see what I can do. I know I need to get more organs, I'm working on that.
I'll start my weeks on Tuesdays cause that's when Hubby is off and I'll be restocking the fridge.
Tuesday AM - Chicken Wings Tuesday PM - Heart & Liver Wednesday AM - Beef (Ground w/1 Egg Yolk and Shells) Wednesday PM - Chicken Thigh (w/bone) Thursday AM - Turkey (w/bone) Thursday PM - Heart & Liver (other organs when I get em) Friday AM - Pork (boneless with egg shells) Friday PM - Chicken Thigh (w/bone) Saturday AM - Ground Turkey (w yolk and shells) Saturday PM - Chicken Wing Sunday AM - Turkey (w/bone) Sunday PM - Ground Beef (with egg yolk and shells) Monday AM - Chicken Thigh (w/bone) Monday PM - Ground beef (w/ egg yolk and shells) Repeat.
Does it matter if I change time to time based on availability? I'm working on getting some kind of game birds, I also found a rodent supply in Colorado that might be cheap for me to supply some whole mice. I'll also try doing live mice. The turkey with bone I'm working on, at this time all I've found is ground turkey, so that's another thing I'm working on.
To Find List: Turkey w/bone More organs Game birds Live Rodents Frozen whole prey that doesn't cost an arm and a leg in shipping
Does mice and rats count as the same protein? I know you're suppose to have three proteins minimum... just not sure if they are the same proteins.

I'm in class now, but I have a couple minutes. I'll look at the menu in a bit,
Rats and mice are different proteins

Also I see 3 liver meals. You should feed about 2 oz of liver a week. Just make sure not to overdo it

So replace one organ meal with regular meat? Let me edit that.

So you have 4 proteins. Awesome. That's a great start. I see a bit too much use of the eggshells. The goal is 8-9 bone in meals, and most of those should be actually raw meaty bone (RMBs) because the bones themselves contain tons of minerals and nutrients. At the moment, I'm seeing 6 actual bone in meals, 5 boneless meals with eggshell added. So a total of 11 bone in meals. So, for two of the meals that you're adding eggshells to, remove the eggshell.
That will give 6 actual bone in meals, 3 eggshell-bone meals. If you start adding in whole prey, those eggshell meals would be perfect to replace with mice and rats. That would give you 6 RMB meals, 3 whole prey meals.
I think you mentioned this before, but they ACTUALLY eat most of the thigh bone, correct?
You're good on the eggs. I wouldn't feed more than 3-4 a week split between the two.
Do you have an estimated date for when you will be getting some new stock? What about whole prey?

Alright great news!
I went to the butcher, I got some beef hearts. That's all taken care of.
On my way to the butcher, I got an e-mail. A guy messaged me with some great prices for his feeder mice. So I ordered a dozen frozen pinkies to start with. Then I'm going to get some live mice after I see how well they do with the pinkies.
Alright so remove some eggshells. Got it. So I can count no bone + eggshell as a bone meal?
The kids love the bones, I leave them in their cage for a few days and they gnaw them to pieces. I will start smashing them up a little after they clean the meat off, to help them chew it to pieces.
Less egg, got it.
The mice will be a couple weeks before they are ready as they just got a whole new breeding stock to help prevent inbreeding.
Today I bought 4 beef hearts, a variety pack of Tyson's All Natural Chicken (drumsticks, thighs, and wings) I also got some chicken gizzards, ground beef, Walmart didn't seem to have much for Turkey or game birds, so when I got back next week I'm going to try a different grocery store we stumbled on today.
So I have... Chicken Wings - bones Chicken Thighs - bones Chicken Drumsticks - bones Ground Beef Ground Turkey Pork Chops Beef Chops Beef Heart Chicken Liver Chicken Heart

Looks good! I've forwarded it to Heather and we'll see about getting you graduated! When you're ready to add whole prey, you can just start a thread in the whole prey section
