She's fine now, just got a little too excited while eating I haven't found anything new yet. I asked the lady at the Asian market about quail and she said they didn't have any at the moment so I'd have to check back another time. I guess they quit carrying it at some point for some reason, but they still carry quail eggs. It looks like I may still be able to get some through them, though. He's a cutie, I love the name!

Yay! I'm happy to hear she's alright.
Sometimes stores will stop selling if people aren't buying. maybe that is what happened with the quail you're after. If they can order them in for you, that would be great! Otherwise don't stress, You will locate something at some point. (Grab some quail eggs! Have you tried them?) ^^

I have not tried the quail eggs. I saw something on Facebook about giving the ferrets a whole quail egg shell and all, is that a thing? It baffled me for some reason.

Yes, it is possible to give whole quail egg. It may be quite enriching for ferrets to crack it open themselves.

I started a new job so I kept passing out when I got home instead of posting * 1. Ferret's name: Mei 2. Ferret's weight: 1 lb 8 oz 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. Mei has been eating about one oz on her own. 4. Stools on various proteins: Organ poops are liquidy with a strong odor, non-organ meal days solid with minimal smell. 5. Activity levels: Normal 1. Ferret's name: Max 2. Ferret's weight: 3 lbs 6 oz 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 4-5 oz. Max tends to eat everything that Mei does not. 4. Stools on various proteins. Same as Mei. 5. Activity levels: Normal Monday Am - Duck Pm - Cornish Hen Tuesday Am - Chicken Wings Pm - Turkey Gizzards Wednesday Am - Duck Pm - Chicken Hearts Thursday Am - Cornish Hen Pm - Duck Friday Am - Chicken Wings Pm - Beef heart, beef liver, beef pancreas Saturday Am - Duck pm - Turkey Gizzards Sunday Am - Chicken wings Pm - Beef liver, beef pancreas We ended up keeping the same feeding schedule since I haven't been able to do any shopping around for this week. Mei is kind of freaking me out. She threw up again, this time a pile of chewed up chicken. I have no idea why she's vomiting but this is the second time in a little over a week. Other than that she seems okay...She's still eating and going to the bathroom. Maybe it has something to do with her shedding? She's been shedding like crazy, there is hair everywhere and since her seasons are off I'm never really sure when her next fur poof is. Her last big shed was November, Max has only shed once for winter and he's been good. They get egg twice a week, though, so I figured she was fine. I'm worried she might have gotten into something but I'm not sure how since we watch her so closely (minus my hiccup over the holidays). Her tail looks so skinny, I think she might be getting rat tail? It's the whole thing narrowing at once, not starting in any certain place...though, I think "rat tail starts at the tip and adrenal starts at the hip" or at least that was how I was trying to remember it. Either that or she just looks so tiny because she's been shedding so much. I'll head back to the Asian market and see what they have soon. I'll certainly pick up some quail eggs, Mei loves getting into things. Max is a lazy bum so he'll probably wait for Mei to break one then go steal it. Other than that both are doing great. I'll try and snag Mei when she's asleep so I can get a picture of her when she isn't squirming. She's a little wiggle worm.

Congrats on your new job! Mei could be eating too fast possibly and regurgitating her food. Was it always the chicken where she would throw up? Possibly a slight sensitivity to the chicken? It may be from the shedding, if she was getting some fur in her throat. Monitor for now, it does sound great that she seems okay though. If she is shedding, you can try giving her an extra egg. Thinning of the fur on the tail does sound like rat tail. That can happen during sheds. ^^ Adrenal hairloss tends to happen at the base of the tail and gradually loss of hair will happen in a symmetrical manner up the back and below the neck, near the shoulder blades. You shouldn't have any worries about adrenal at this stage, Mei and Max are still quite young. Good look looking at the asian market too. Hopefully you can locate somethings for bone in meats (look out for the quail and possibly frogs legs.) Let me know how Mei and Max enjoy their quail eggs when you try them~~

Sorry for the late reply, I think I'm going to drop one of my classes...It's optional and I'm totally swamped right now.
1. Ferret's name: Mei 2. Ferret's weight: 1 lb 9 oz 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. Mei has been eating about one oz on her own. 4. Stools on various proteins: Organ poops are liquidy with a strong odor, non-organ meal days solid with minimal smell. Lately poops have been very fatty so I gave them a leaner muscle meal to balance them out. 5. Activity levels: Normal
1. Ferret's name: Max 2. Ferret's weight: 3 lbs 6 oz 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 4-5 oz. Max tends to eat everything that Mei does not. 4. Stools on various proteins. Same as Mei. 5. Activity levels: Normal
Monday Am - Duck Pm - Cornish Hen Tuesday Am - Chicken Wings Pm - Ground beef Wednesday Am - Duck Pm - Chicken Hearts Thursday Am - Cornish Hen Pm - Duck Friday Am - Chicken Wings Pm - Beef heart, beef liver, beef pancreas Saturday Am - Duck pm - Ground beef Sunday Am - Chicken wings Pm - Beef liver, beef pancreas
I am still on a quest to find a different bone in. I'm hoping once I drop my extra class I'll have much more time, my workload for my final term is a little too much right now. I'm not sure why I ever convinced myself taking two optional classes was a good idea. I'm insane.

As you get closer to being done, I want to ask - is there anything you have questions or concerns about or that you are working on with Machan (or want to work on) before graduating?

Have a good break, Machan!
Duck is bone in, yes. I buy them whole and break them down at home. The only concern I have is that my menu is pretty chicken heavy, so I've been looking into getting some quail, pork buttons, frogs legs or something. The Asian Market here said they could see about helping me out. I'll drop by this weekend and see if ordering from them in possible.
Other than that everything is all routine now. Even Mei is settling down considerably since she lost her baby teeth. I still don't trust her with anything but I think maybe she had a bad tooth that stopped bothering her when it fell out. She'll be a year old in March so we're pretty excited! Max just hit his hypertastic phase so he's a pain in the butt but not nearly as bad as his sister.
I've really enjoyed getting to know Machan and getting help with my terrible two. As much as I love them, I would have been at a loss without a mentor. Ferrenting is hard, I didn't know one tiny pound of fuzz could turn my life on its head and drop another three pounds of fuzz on top. My bedroom looks like a ferret wonderland...I've crushed so many jingle balls by accident (including Max's favorite, he's still mad at me).

Another one to look for at the Asian market is rabbit - great bone in protein. Quail is good too. You can also add Chicken feet to boneless meats (e.g. Chicken feet and beef chunks), though another non-chicken bone is even better.

I put in an order for some quail and they said they'd see about frog leg and rabbit prices as well. I'm hoping to hear back from them soon. I'm also going out of town the weekend of the 18th so I can pick up heart so I'll hunt around there and see what I can find as well.
