I often give my fuzzys whole pigeons and they love them. Today I killed one and gave it to them straight away and they done something today that I've never seen, Micky went straight to the neck and started to bite and twist as if he was trying to kill it normal they just start on the head. Do you think it's because it was still warm and he thought it was still alive or is it something they do. I don't think they have ever been given live food

It's instinct. One of mine always "kills" her already dead rodents.

Yep, I've given still-hot mice and the response is MUCH more animated, he hisses while biting the head and neck and shaking.

Does anyone heat whole prey to at least room temp before feeding? mos of ours will walk away from soup unless it's warm
