happily chowing down. we had to slice the bits smaller but he's had wings (ulna, radius + tip) and heart and mince. he can't crunch through thigh or the humerus of a chicken wing though

Have you gone back to the frankenprey diet then? Please post your menu for this week.

unfortunately, he's not been himself lately. he's been off his food and very sleepy. We swapped him back to dry because he didn't seem to want to eat.

Is he showing any other symptoms of poor health? A raw diet will not make a ferret sick, so if he isn't behaving normally I highly recommend you take him to a vet.

Shedding and reduced appetite sounds like a perfectly normal seasonal change! Once it starts to warm up ferrets go through a coat change and can lose up to 40% of their winter weight. There are some days when it seems my guys are living on air and eating almost nothing at all!
Please let me know if you would like to get down to business and finish the frankenprey diet switch. Otherwise I will have this thread closed and vaulted.

I do intend to finish the switch. I was just worried because he was ignoring food. So:
Wednesday am: pigeon wings and legs Wednesday pm: beef mince
thur am: chicken wings thur pm: lamb heart
fri am chicken wings fri pm: beef mince
Sat am: chicken wings sat pm: lamb heart and liver + kidney
sun am chicken wings sun pm: rabbit
mon am: chicken wings mon pm: liver + kidney
tue am: chicken wings tue pm: pork
The reason the mornings are blank is because I haven't been to the butcher yet.

Now that it's fully filled out, it looks like you have:
8 bone-in meals 3 muscle meals 1.5 liver/organ meals 1.5 heart meals
You have 5 different proteins (6 including lamb heart) and everything looks great!!

That looks great! Let me know if you are feeling confident with raw feeding and the frankenprey menu, and we can start the process to get your graduated from the mentoring program.
This includes a final exam and posting one last menu which will be submitted to the other mentors/admin for review.

though I was ready however, our little fuzzbutt has decided he doesn't want his liver and kidneys! I can't get him to eat them. heart, no probs, wings, gimme gimme he says, any other meat, oooh yum. Liver and Kidneys? 'ew, mum, what's this stinky, smell stuff? do i have to eat it? why don't I just bury it in the garden?' me: 'no, there's heart in there too.' Him: 'fine, I'm just eating the heart though.' 'but it's mixed in' 'i'll dig it out!'

Do you have a blender or food processor? If you can puree the meat it will be too fine to pick out one or the other.
Alternately, you could feed the liver and kidneys as separate meals (maybe 1 meal heart, 1 meal liver/kidneys and 1 meal 50/50 so it's still 1.5 meals of each).
Has anything changed? I noticed that my ferrets don't seem to like beef liver as much as pork or lamb for some reason (it all looks and smells equally disgusting to me!)

no, he likes lamb heart over beef but doesn't like the fatty bits. he just doesn't like kidney and liver, of any kind. He looks so disgusted. I have a fussy fuzzy!
