So, I'm a numpty and have noticed that one of Summer's kits has an small extra pad and claw on a hindfoot, it's not quite an entire toe but it counts as polydactyly I don't know how I didn't notice before but a photo taken at just the right angle and a friend pointing out it looks odd and she does have polydactyly. From everything I know, in pretty much every species, polydactyly is genetic in aetiology and is dominant. And here's the odd bit, neither Summer nor Ash nor any of Yara's 9 litter siblings have polydactyly. So either Summer was born with polydactyly and her breeder removed the extra toe/s while she was a tiny kit so that when she came home at 12 weeks she looked normal OR this is a primary mutation in Yara. Has anyone else come across this? I'm a little confused and reasonably concerned. But everything I can find on the genetics of this condition tells me it's a dominant gene and so won't be carried and hidden. Obviously, Yara will not be bred, but I would love to know others' thoughts/experiences on this. Seen in cats and dogs many, many times but never in a ferret before
