Monty had a mouse for the first time and promptly ate the head and chest and left the lower half. Is this normal thing for ferrets to do? I didn't gut it (it's a little mouse) so I wonder if that's the problem.

LOL....that is a ferret. Little zombies that they are. Just leave bum, when he realises he's not getting another one he will eat it. I went to get the wee girlies up the other day and there were 4 mouse bums in a row and the girls looking at me going....well....new mice these are defective they don't have any heads

When I was introducing mouse, they'd mostly be untouched except if parts went missing, the head was usually among them. I eventually found they'd eat mice pretty well...as long as I removed the fur, gutted them, chopped them up and mixed it with an egg. Takes a while to do, but they only get it once per week so it's like a special treat.

When I gave Little Bear her first mouse the first thing she did was eat the head. heads are tasty I guess.
