Ah, I see, I didn't realize the hyperplasia thing would show up on an MRI. You are definitely wandering into unchartered territory here. I bet no one else in the world has ever studied this in ferrets!
Is it possible that the grinds had hormones in them? That could explain it. Maybe.

Lily's brother, Mouse, is now coming into rut at 16 weeks and is trying to drag everyone off to his man cave Has anyone come across this before? I'm keeping two kits and the others have gone to pet only homes where I will definitely get regular updates, but I'm a little concerned. This is not a health issue at the moment as such, but it is not something I want in the line and it is not normal or natural. This was something I absolutely did not expect, but then, that's what this breeding was for - to flag up problems in the line. Yes, we have also seen males come into a heat that young (actualt my friends male) ... But in this case it was a bit later in a year (around the end of the year), so this was still more on a normal side (from calendar view point). He was put outside on a balcony in completely natural light cycle and temperatures and he went off in a while. He came in latter on (around 6-7 mths). When he was 8 months old he got his implant and is (for now) ok. It was his first year and he was sold as a pet. I have no idea if there were similar problems in same litter - according to his breeder, no. I have no idea if the MRI would show something - if you will do it, I would be really interested in results ... (sorry, I know how it is when it is your own ferret having problems, but still ... professional "deformity", I belive you are the same ). I would suggest you to put him on a short light cycle - you can not do much about temperatures at the moment ... he should be out in few weeks - if there just hormonal mess up.

Yeah I wouldn't be so surprised if it was November/December time and definitely wouldn't be surprised if Mouse was housed indoors but all my ferrets are outdoors and always have been. Most bizarre! Mouse's new owner was planning on an implant so in discussion with her as to whether we implant now or try to bring down his light hours. Mouse has another kit to meet in his new home as well as currently being introduced to a kit from another litter here that he is going with and poor Mouse doesn't know what is going on, and the other kits really are flummoxed by his behaviour! I will most definitely share the results if I go for MRIs ... another option may be to ultrasound them - and I know of a good exotics vet with vast ferret experience not too far away so may phone her for a chat

I think I will still get some investigations done at a later date, but these kids were born 23rd April so are the oldest here. It is weird weather and perhaps that is all it is after all. Most of the hobs out of Mischief's litter have tiny bits down now, but so far no other jill kits have come into season! My adult hobs are in rut one week and out the next, they can't keep up at all!

It's been so hot and dry (mid 30's) here that none of my ferrets are going out of season (they're usually finished by July/Aug). I've even got jills coming into season. Alright already guys, it's time to shut things down, and tuck it up. Enough of the fools game. Back into the closet with the lot of you ciao

It's certainly annoying when their seasons are affected by odd weather! Most of my boy kits are now getting little 'plums' and they would be arriving at a similar age to Mouse when he went 'ruttish' so perhaps it's this extreme indian summer weather! I suspect some people are going to be having late litters this year. I can't think of anything more upsetting than more kits. I'm just enjoying the mostly nip trained babies and spending more time playing and cuddling and less time cleaning as they are pretty clean now too

Yes, our little ones are so screwed up this year. Bev, you've been doing this for like forever.....have you seen years previous like this or are we going to have problems with our little ones because of these weird weather patterns? ciao

Hi yes I have seen it happen in the past this is why I I think temp along with lighting has a lot to do with seasons if its spring and light but its freezing cold they tend to wait a while ( I think its there bodies and brains way of saying its not viable to breed prey will be scarce so how do you feed young if you cant feed yourself ) in cold snow covered springs I have known jills hold off and only have one season that year waiting until things warm up in warm springs you could end up with 3-4 seasons in a year lol take care bye for now Bev

I'm late to this topic but my 3 year old jills both came in 3 times this season; last two years only twice. We've had a long and hot summer. Although it could also be because this is their first year with jill jabs instead of v-hob.
