My oldest was cleaning in the ferret/family room this morning and found that Godiva had passed. Godiva was the little sable female I picked up from animal control back in January. She had thinning fur and the shelter staff said she was only a year old.... When I went to see her I knew I had to take her home with me. One look at her teeth and I knew she was closer to 6 or 7 years old. She was skin and bones and her fur was indeed thinning. I was hopping that with some good food she'd gain weight and grow back her fur...but it didn't. She was adrenal. We were waiting on the des. implant, our vet seemed to think that she was stable and could wait. Godiva decided other wise... she was supersweet and loved to give kisses. When I took her from her hammock her body was swollen to almost double the size it was last night at dinner time. I don't know what happened, maybe their was more than just the adrenal tumor, maybe there was an unknown tumor that hemmoraged? The fact that her body was so swollen was really shocking.... any input would be greatly appreciated.
Dook in peace sweet Godiva, I hope you'll be waiting for me at the Bridge when it's time....

Dook in peace lady Godiva. Rose, your heart is far bigger than many people in the world, and rest assured that Godiva will be waiting for you. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you, Rose. Thank you for being one of those people that lets love into your heart and home even when it is old, sick, needing your nurturing. You are a shining star, and tonight look outside-and you'll see Godiva who is now yours. I am sure that from where she is standing, she can see you shining just as brightly. I am so sad to hear that Godiva didn't make it, but I know that she is so happy she got to spend the last of her life with you.

One thing I've noticed over the last 3 1/2 years of having ferrets. It's that those who need our love the most, the most ill, the most vulnerable, seem to finally be able to relax enough to "let go" once they are in a place where they can finally trust again. And you fulfilled that trust of hers. You gave her a warm place to sleep, a face to kiss, enough good food to fill her tummy, and you finally gave her a home. You filled her soul. Once that happens, they can let go of old pain, and mistrust, and fly free finally. You gave her the gift of peace. Thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss Rose, at least she went in a loving home, with good food and care and not at the shelter, she probably had another issue going on, those older ones often do, she sounded like a sweetie and I'm glad she ended up with you, even if only for a short time.

I'm so sorry, sometimes waiting isn't what they're into. Patience has never been a favourite word of ferrets. A traveling candle is lit for sweet little Lady Godiva, to guide her wee feet onto her next and even greater adventure. Her coat is thick and lush, her footsteps light...she is free. No pain, no fear clouds her mind and if a little ferret could smile she would....she has her heartkey. A gift from a most caring person who had adopted her against all the odds. Had taken her sick and old and loved her for what she was....and given her a ferrets most prized possession...love. She runs, and dooks...bounces and dances...then hesitates, looks back but only for a moment....she knows that some day, some time she will once again share hugs and kisses from the one who's key she now guards. Goodbye, little Godiva....you are missed wee one ciao

So sorry! May she rest in peace. Thank you for giving her a home and a place of love & rest in her final days. You asked what would cause swelling like this. Sounds like a rupture and internal bleeding. Sometimes there is a rupture @ the vena cava from the Adrenal tumor on the right. Sometimes the tumors themselves are so large that the Adrenal gland ruptures. I believe this would have happened regardless of Adrenal meds.
