jerkk, how did they go about diagnosing her? What tests? They didn't do any tests but he did offer the one from TN and/or an ultrasound. He said when he looked at it under a microscope it had a slight amount of bacteria, but didn't really say what exactly they were. I might actually call him and ask for the test, just to confirm. I'll still be getting des implants for both my ferrets, if she doesn't have it, then it'll be used as a preventative. Same with my other fuzzy.

Hi Jerkk what did the vert say the lumps were ? could you do me a favor and dip a q tip in some warm water and roll it over and over a cluster of the lumps it may sound stupid but they looked a lot like sweat balls to me ! ferrets push out excessive amounts of hormone especially one who is 1 1/2 and having her first big breeding season ahead of her the hormone sticks to the base of hair follicles as it is expressed looking like gunky sweat balls they vary in color from yellow to dark brown if it is excess hormone you will see a little color on the q tip where you have swabbed fingers crossed this would also account for the thinner hair as she would be experiencing a massive coat shed on your pic it looked like she was loosing guard hairs not the undercoat this is normal during a big shed fingers crossed your vet got it wrong take care bye for now Bev Okay, I will do the cotton swab and tell you what I find. I'm hoping he is wrong, too. If she grows her fur back after the des implant/treatment then I'll know it was adrenal. I might go ahead and ask for the TN test to confirm though. I Just swabbed one of the spots. It had a yellowish gold color to it.

Here is a better picture of how thin her fur is. Her skin is almost white-pink. This area is on her lower back aswell. m.imgur.com/Z4dbt58 (Better picture)

Hi Jerkk the yellow golden color indicates its sweat Balls a simple over production of oils ! that is quite common for a jill or hob experiencing there first big season ( fixed jills and hobs produce hormones just the same as whole ferrets ) the hair loss could simply be her first big shed my poley hobs have weird shedding patterns you would think one morning someone had gone in and shaved there legs ready for an operation within 10 days you see the peach fuzz popping through hope this helps take care bye for now Bev

Hi I just noticed this in one of your posts Jerkk the implants do not act as a preventative they simply hide the fact a ferret has adrenal ! take care bye for now Bev

Don't know if you practice it or not, but u may want to put ferrets up when sun goes down if free roam and turn out lights in their room.

I use blankets as a cage cover and I let them out until they fall asleep in their den I made for them, then they sleep the rest of the day.

I have read that sometimes it's not the best option, and other times that it can cure them of the disease. I don't know what to do! One vet quoted me $700 FOR A DES IMPLANT. $700 FRICKIN DOLLARS.

$700? I pay $250 for mine (that's with the price of the exam). Have you called around? I almost drove an hour and a half away for implants, but finally found a vet in town that was willing to do them. I've heard that implants and lupron was better and safer than surgery with the same 'success' rate? (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I adopted an adrenal ferret a year ago and I asked the board if surgery was the best option, and I forgot what was said but in a nutshell I was told no.

I just want her to have the longest, happiest life she can have. My feelings aren't to be considered in a decision like this, for I want to do what is best for my ferrets and not what I think is best for me. I will ask around more. I knew $700 was way too high. I don't even know how they come up with a price like that.

I hope you can find a vet who can implant cheaper. Ace and Edge are my first ferrets with implants and I'm impressed with it. Her swollen vulva went down within three weeks, hair grew back quickly, and she got her old appetite back.

A vet I use to go to charged about $600 for an implant. She was big on pushing lupron shots because it made her more money. So if you didn't want to go the lupron route, she made sure to over charge for the implant. But I found another vet who I like a whole lot more and only charged $215 for the implant (plus exam fee).

We had one who was charging $700 per implant here as well. It was during the shortage and they'd ordered a lot extra. They wound up losing a lot of clients over that. Average I pay here with exam is $300.

Good news! There's a vets office about 2 hours away that does implants for $200 and a well known ferret vet works there aswell. Hopefully everything will get better soon. I am waiting to hear back from the vet I took her to originally but he won't be back in the office until Thursday.

That's fantastic! You could always use the closer one for more mundane stuff and the further one for more specialized, surgeries, etc.
