Spike is our only pet left after Puck's passing, and something isn't right... I've called the vet and we're going in, but please send loving thoughts for my Geriatric German Shepherd...
He is refusing all foods, I'm forcing water down his throat, literally, he is peeing all over himself and me, and he's giving a deep coughing noise through his nose...
Spike is a ten year old puppy mill rescue rehomed to us by kind but clueless owners. They fed him Ol Roy kibble his whole life, and although they kept his vaccinations up to date they couldn't understand or deal with the fact he has always been under weight, and sick. He now suffers from stomach issues that make his natural diet hard to work with, cancer, and liver disease... He was given a death sentence (lymphoma) two years ago, but with the help of an open minded vet and a lot of work on my and my husbands part he's improved quite a bit... Now since last night we've been noticing a lot of hind leg weakness and general disorientation... Hopefully our vet will tell us that he's going to be okay, but I'm gearing the worst right now.

Spike is truly a special one and my heart goes out to you. I will wish upon Ponce's Star for healing thoughts sent to both you who might have to be prepared for such a great loss and for Spike to get better and have many more memories and fun times with his family.

He won't let me get him the the truck. I'm bawling again... He's growling at me. I've never seen him like this. I called my neighbor, they're coming over to help me lift him up in the truck. I'll hold his head and he'll lift in case he gets violent.

He's frightened and in pain. Try wrapping him up in a towel or blanket. Speak gently and lovingly to him.

Spike was allowed to come home with heavy duty pain meds, an anti nausea, and an antibiotic. He had a fever of 106.3 when we got there, so the vet was hoping it was just an infection. Today his fever is gone but he's getting worse. Brought him in and the vet is doing blood work, a urinalysis, and a fecal smear, to cover everything possible. He said in his honest opinion it doesn't look good, and told us to prepare ourselves for the worst tonight.
