Hey guys. I just wanted to know if water and a q tip is okay to clean my ferrets ears? I also have one of them confirmed with ear mites... Can I still clean his ears until I get hold of the ear drops this weekend or should I wait?

My vet had me treat all 3 of my ferrets when my baby tested positive. Then in two weeks( if I remember correctly--- could have been 1 week later)I had to do it again for eggs that may have hatched as the meds do not kill eggs.
I am not sure about putting Q-tips in ferrets ears. Maybe someone will have that info for you.

Well I know not to go deep into their ear just wiping basically the surface of their ear.

For now I wouldn't use q tips. I'd have your vet clean/flush the ears to get rid of any dead ear mites.

Hi your vet can give you meds for the mites and once they are gone an easy way to clean is to drip a little warm ( warm it in your hands in a eye dropper bottle )olive oil then massage the ear and wipe away the excess with a little cotton wool ball ( use clean for each ear ) the following morning wipe the ear again and remove any garbage that has surfaced ( if you have a couple of ferrets who live together they end up cleaning the ears for you lol) you can repeat ear cleaning for a couple of days and once totally clean do it every two weeks hope this helps take care bye for now Bev
