Well I have been looking through this forum at other peoples solutions for ferret rooms since before my two boys arrived and i found it amazing what some people have managed to build. Some of the tubing ideas around peoples homes and others with indoor rooms converted into wonderful play rooms for their ferrets. It really set my mind to thinking about what could be achieved. Now, I knew from the outset that my ferrets would be housed outside in our roofed garden. A place I enjoy being on an evening with a bottle of wine while I pottering around the few container plants that I have. and there was my main problem.....my container plants. Everything I read by others said I would have to get rid of my container plants. This was unacceptable. There had to be a way I could have both ferret and plant. Fool you say.....well, fool I am. So about my ferret room/garden I set. I dont know how many times I repotted/moved/raised and generally altered my planting arangement but finally I settled on my layout. I put plants on each possible escape route from the garden so that if one managed to beat my best proofing ideas there would be plants from them to dig in on the way. Thus leaving a trail of destruction and helping me identify escape routes. Once all escape routes had been secured I could happily leave the plants in their positions knowing that should my ferrets find a new way I would know which way they had gone. Anyway Ive rattled on a bit because I enjoy typing so much, not because Im on my second glass of wine. Here is a view of the ferret room from my kitchen sink... and here is one looking back at the kitchen window and finally one more for good measure

That is a wonderful ferret room, but where are the after pictures? We like close-ups of wanton destruction Is that a trail of destruction in the corner? Where did that soil/gravel come from? Sorry, I just remember that one of the last things I saw during my research before getting Maisie was a picture of a room in complete disarray. The title was, "Is a Ferret the Right Pet For You?" and underneath it said: "If this happened to one of your rooms, would you laugh or be angry? If you would be angry, don't get a ferret"

"Is a Ferret the Right Pet For You?" and underneath it said: "If this happened to one of your rooms, would you laugh or be angry? If you would be angry, don't get a ferret" That is spot on! Being able to laugh in the midst of chaos is crucial for being a ferrent. Beautiful ferret room! That is a lucky ferret(s). Looks like a wonderful place to drink & watch ferret frolick.

Looks beautiful, but beware of those bike tires- the little nubby texture is easy to sink teeth into and they might swallow any peices they remove. Is it possible to mount the bike hanging on a wall?

It's brilliant. We should get a hutch fior our deck. They like sleeping outside a lot.

Hmmm! wondering about the plants now. Are they poisonous? Is there a list of poisonous plants? Largely they have left them alone, other than digging them up or climbing through them. I just plant them back in and move them or raise them. Again. And now I must also remember to photo the destruction next time. What I failed to show in these pictures was what the ferrets get. Behind the sofa and holding up the house cage is an old dog cage stuffed with hay, a soil dig box which I burry treats in, a roofed ball pit and 4" tubing. These is now more tubing on the wall leading to a hammock I fit to the fence. They play in them all. Eddie loves jumping from the roof onto the sofa in a four footed kamakaze fling. I also have a couple of beds dotted around that can be easily moved into the cage when they fall asleep in them. AS for the bike tires I never thought of them. All the rubber dog toys have been collected up but now ill be out checking the tires for bite marks. Luckily we already have a plan to move the bike which will put it out of reach.
