Can someone tell me if they have seen this before  I have been watching my two boys poop lately.. It has mostly been like this for a few days.. The green/grainy looking poop.. Today we gave them an egg yolk and now the brownish poop on top of the green poop was what one of them did.  And now one of them has done this after eating an egg yolk.. I know the green is supposed to represent food not being digested properly.. But should I be worried with the poop below???  Trying to decide if the Vet is needed first thing in the morning.. Thanks.. |

I've experienced both of those when it comes to new proteins.
Sometimes it may be from too much bacteria, (causing the green colouring, and the loose texture) and usually they clear up within a week. If it doesn't clear up on its own, then vet.
An egg poop will produce a yellow, sort of loose poop. That is normal.
However in your photo 1# Poop appears green and slightly seedy, did you feed anything else, or are they just eating egg?
It is undigested fats, this can happen with new foods, this can clear up on its own.
I would monitor the poop and if it continues with the same protein, for longer than week, then I might suspect an intolerance or another issue which would be worth a vet check.
What protein and type of food was used for Photo 1# and Photo 2#? Was it only chicken? Does it happen all the time , and what about with other food / protein types?

They both are kibble fed. It is a mixture of wysong epigen 90 with digestive support and Natures Variety duck and turkey. The only other thing that I give them is an egg yolk about once every 1-2 weeks and coconut oil. I have been keeping a close eye on their toys to make sure they aren't chewing anything they aren't suppose to. The green seedy poop has been happening for a while now. The guys have been acting normal so I haven't really considered it an issue. One of my boys have been constantly digging at the water bowl. I just keep getting a feeling that something isn't right.. :/

So you've fed the raw egg before while they are on kibble? Same poops in the past, or is this kind of poop suddenly new? If its only just started to happen, then I would be looking at it being either 1# the kibble, or 2# Kibble + Raw causing a bacteria overload in the gut of the ferret. When kibble becomes moist and is let to sit out, it becomes a bacteria breeding ground. One ferret you say has been digging at the water bowl, is the water bowl anywhere near the kibble? This can happen with raw as well (because its moist), but its rare, its more likely to happen with kibble, since kibble goes through a whole lot of processing when its being created. When something that is raw (such as an egg), is fed simultaneously with something such as kibble, this can increase bacteria and cause stomach upsets, which then results in funky poops such as this. When feeding something raw, even simply just an egg, it is recommended that the kibble be removed at least 2 hours in advance. In any case, go with your gut feeling. If you feel something is off, definitely go to the vet. Before you go to the vet, try and bring some fresh poop samples with you so it can be tested, if testing is needed.  |

This is why I joined this forum. I know a good amount about ferrets but I do need to learn a little bit more about their bodies. The stomach upset would explain why he was acting so weird last night. He didn't touch his food last night, and that is probably why. I had no idea kibble can be a bacterial problem if left out.. next time I will be sure to take away kibble before I give them an egg.
Usually in the past after I gave them an egg it was like the green poops but with yellow slime mixed in.(egg)
The green squggly poop is completely different than what I've seen. It is very flouresent green.

Have you dissected the stools with the stringy appearance? Those are what concern me the most. And on kibble they should have consistent looking stools.

It's almost like the consistency of noodles but it breaks apart easily. Trying to figure out how to explain it lol it's slimey, noodle like, looks like long skinny worms. I kept samples of each one just in case. |

Is this a new switch? There appears to be an absorption issue. The green is consistent with protein passing through the system too quickly. The last photo shows a lot of mucous, so definitely a stomach upset. I wondered earlier if there had been ingestion of a foreign object, perhaps a toy or blanket. What is the protein source? is it new?

come to think of it, ever since I switched them from the demour brand from tractor supply(what they ate when I took them in) to wysong/NV duck and turkey they have never had solid poop. I'm thinking they might have an intolerance for the chicken kibble?
That's the only thing they have eaten since I've had them. But I've come to realize that even though it's suppose to be good kibble, it has a low fat content. :/
I wish I could switch them to raw but we have no freezer space in our apartment..
They did have an egg last night as well.

update: Bandit's poo is taking a shape now but it is still not as thick as it should be  Bears poop is closer to normal size but his is still a bit runny  |
