That is ridiculous lmao she is obviously NOT brown. I would die to have a horse of my own. I was one of those girls...you know, the ones who had read every horse book in the library, every flat surface covered in model ponies, boxes full of My-Little-Ponies, a hot pink cowgirl hat, and every square inches of her walls covered in Horse Illustrated posters....and who could not talk about anything but horses.... Yup....that was me. Still is on the inside! ;D One day I want a paint gelding who I will name Accidental Prodigy. His barn name will be Axel and he will be the best horse ever and we will have the most amazing bond.... Hey! A girl can dream! ;D ;D ;D ;D Really though, your mare is stunning - you are so lucky. If I am ever in town I'm so coming out for a ride!

Lovely lady. I don't see many dapple paints (do I spy a dapple or two?), Most I have met are chestnut paints. I love love love the odd eyes. She must have to stay out of too much sun.

When I found out that I was going to be adopting her, I practically FLEW out of my skin. And if you are in town, we'd love to have you!! Haha Novemberkris- Actually she does pretty well in sun surprisingly, I don't think she has ever gotten burnt, knock on wood that it doesn't happen though!

Haha Novemberkris- Actually she does pretty well in sun surprisingly, I don't think she has ever gotten burnt, knock on wood that it doesn't happen though! Unfortunately my opportunities to ride growing up were pretty scattered. We had a free lease agreement with an older woman when I was little and my Mom gave me lessons (she used to give lessons at stables). Then I would get rides here and there when I could. In middle/high school for a while I had a work trade agreement going where for every 3 hours of work at the stable, I got an hour riding lesson... but I left because the horses were not properly cared for, the barn was run by kids with the owner almsot never around, and I was getting lessons from kids younger than myself. That was unfortunately the last of my horseback riding for about 8 years! We were just moving around to places where riding was not available. Then recently I decided to get back into it since school is over for a year. I found a pretty little mare on CL and now I am able to go ride her whenever I have time as long as she is not being used already. She is not the best horse, but she is a horse and I enjoy her. She is stubborn as h*** and fat like she's preggo. ;D Doc's Shadow (her barn name is just Shadow) She is nowhere are near as beautiful as your girl though. She's ridden Western, but I prefer English so I have just been riding her bareback! Much more fun (and easier IMO) and her tubby body makes for a comfy seat! hahaha What do you have planned for Ava? Are you using her for shows or jumping or more along the lines of trail and pleasure riding? She has to be one of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen. I am in love...

Eight years is a long time, that would feel like forever to me! Shadow is absolutely stunning, I love her facial expressions and that bosal fits her perfectly! Haha, chubby horses are the best to ride bareback on, they're like big bouncy pillows Did you do any showing at all, or are you all for the leisure riding? Right now, I am mainly just trying to get her training grounded, I want her to be able to do all the basics before I get too busy with school, because I know as soon as it comes around I won't see her too much anymore But overall I am preparing her for endurance/long trail rides, whenever we are out on the trail for hours, you feel so free

Unfortunately. Then High school and college I was just too busy to even think about riding really. Esp college! I would LOVE to do showing. My dream is to jump. I did it once and LOVED it and have dreamed of doing it ever since... Unfortunately Shadow does not jump. Her owner doesn't really believe in allowing horses to jump because it is hard on them. Oh well. Thanks to the scattered life I led (Army Brat woo hoo....not) and my riding experiences being so scattered and hit and miss, my experience is...hmmm....gappy? Like 90% of my riding has been primarily casual pleasure riding. Very little formal training. So my knowledge in certain areas has big holes. I can handle a horse fine, groom them, etc. I can get up and ride and steer and go and stop and have a decent seat (balance wise...I am a bad toe pointer lol ) and overall I feel very comfortable atop a horse. But as a kid I was never allowed to lounge, and usually had someone else do, or help with, the tacking up (I was so small - still am - so I could never reach to put the saddle on the horses I was riding haha I only had the opportunity to ride a pony like once or twice the rest were pretty big ). Also, since none of my lessons were super formal, and most of the books I read as a kid were more about general care and stuff like Thoroughbred and Pony Pals series and Black Beauty as opposed to the technical stuff, I am missing a lot of the language. For example, the BO asked me if I knew how to do Serpentines. I was like ummmm....I have heard of them.... Then she explained it and I was like Oh! Yeah! I can do that! ;D And for the tack, where I can tack a horse, I just feel clumsy and slightly uncomfortable with it. I am always afraid I will put the saddle too far forwards or back. It's like I know I am doing it right, but I worry that I will do it wrong. lol And honestly I don't really like saddles anyways. Esp Western. English is way more comfy IMO! I find that I never have saddles that fit me (because I ride other people's horses and I am smaller than most people lol so their saddles are too big), and I slide around more. And the stirrups are never as short as I like (I like to ride with shorter stirrups), and they make me tend to point my toes even more (*ahem* bad habit). So I usually don't use them anyways. I just slip my feet out and ignore them. Bareback I feel much much more comfortable actually than with a saddle. Nothing between me and the horse, much better contact, control, and communication. Less fiddling around with gear, less weight on the horse, nothing in my way. Bareback just feels much more natural and the way it is supposed to be. I still use the saddle for some rides, and always for trail rides though.

Yes Here is a link I found when I was googling for a good picture... www.thehorseguide.com/HorseColors/Brown.htmI was always under the impression that horses of this coloring were officially registered as brown (as well as just being called brown). And for those less familiar with horses: compared to Chestnut: www.everything-dream-horse.com/images/chestnut-horse-a.jpgAnd Bay: (see Shadow above lol)

Fearless- Brown is sort of a legit color but I don't really like to think of it as one, that is why it is so ridiculous! Katt- Yeah, nothing can beat bareback, it is THE best! Saddles are nice for trail rides though, especially if your horse spooks, then you actually have a chance of staying on

Lol yea you've gotta love that saddle horn when someone gets spooky. Shadow was being a jerk one ride last fall and ran me through a tree when she spooked. *facepalm* Branches in the face, sap on my clothes....thanks. Thanks a lot. I swear she did it on purpose too. Like 2 feet to either side was clear but no she HAD to go through the tree. Silly horse.

No not face planted. It was a pine tree if I remember right so I didn't hit the trunk at all but went through all of the low-hanging the branches. None of them were huge, they just smacked me. I was a little worried I would get brushed right off but I managed to stay on somehow. lol (thank you saddle horn)
And yes after I took her out an beat her....with love. ;D

My friend Derek has horses and last time I was there, he insisted that I ride. And, I did. It was the first time in my adult life I ever had, and it was great. Here is me riding his horse Brego You can really see the horse better in this picture though. This is another friend of mine who also rode that day. We really had a great day. Derek, our friend, has amazing horses. Aside from Brego, he has Biscuit, Duchess, and Sandy. I'll have to get pics of them all when I go.
